12 is the right number. More than that is too many. Less than that is too few.

Any more than 12 will simply water down the playoffs to a point where making the first round won't be much more of an accomplishment than winning 6 games to become bowl eligible. They're trying to make it like Texas high school football where in far west Texas there are districts with only 4-5 teams...meaning all of them go to the playoffs even if a couple have losing records, or don't win a single game. I mean sure the good team that has to play one of those has an easier path, but what if you lose a star player to injury playing a team that shouldn't be in the playoffs in the first place?

I know it's about money and not who truly deserves to be in, but in my opinion 12 is already 4 too many teams.

6 is actually the right number.

2 is the only right number.

But if we're going to expand, then I'm ok with 8. Beyond 8 (really beyond 4) has never had an argument for best team in the country. Ever.

Nope. That’s the perfect number to ensure a 3 loss Alabama, Ohio St., or Notre Dame in.

also the reason for the ACC's slight edge in revenue over the Big 12, as the ACC has had eight CFP semifinalists (counting Notre Dame's appearance in 2020 as a league member),

while TCU is the only Big 12 team to reach a CFP semifinal that will be in the Big 12 next season.

So wait a minute

The ACC gets credit for Notre Dame making playoff in their conference for ONE YEAR during COVID

But the BIG 12 doesn’t get credit for Texas for making playoff this year?

They used to select the Natty Champ BEFORE bowl games...I'm good with any number of teams between 4 & 14.

Why is 14 already imminent when the results of 12 haven't been weighed.

Just make 128. 10 game all conference season for seeding. 17 games for the NCG contenders.

Be done with it.

One true champ, right?

I hate it, but expansion will continue. The $$$ is too big a draw.
