Regardless of the French surrender, Frenchmen fought bravely against the German invasion. Many Frenchmen kept fighting in the Free French forces as well. And there were also brave Frenchmen that fought in the Waffen SS against the Soviets.

The only thing weakening France now is the same thing that’s destroying all the West - Marxist wokism.

They’re not wrong

Actually they are.

As a country France has the best win loss record in wars over the last thousand years or so.

Hell under Napoleon it took 7 coalitions of major European countries including the vaunted Prussian infantry to beat France and for five of the first coalitions France beat the hell out of every country they didn’t have to cross water to invade (i.e. Great Britain).

Russian scorched earth tactics did more to defeat him than anything else, and he didn’t invade Russia in the winter. He did so in the Summer and though he took Moscow he wasn’t able to force a decisive set piece battle that Napoleon excelled at.

But going back further than that, the historian Niall Ferguson argues that France is the most belligerent military power in history. It participated in 50 of the 125 major European wars fought since 1495; more than any other European state. It is followed by Austria which fought in 47 of them; Spain in 44; and England in 43. Out of the 169 most important world battles fought since 387BC, France has won 109, lost 49 and drawn 10.

WWII and the Franco Prussian wars are the only two recent wars in which they were decisively defeated.

Germany occupied France for like four years, yet French is still being spoken…in France

Do you know why Germany only occupied France for four years? That is the reason the French still speak French. Because they still are French and not German.

Had Germany held onto France, they would have transitioned to German. Just like the people living in the Louisiana territory transitioned from French to English when it became part of the United States. It took time, generations, but it happened. I am sure there would have been pockets there in France that kept speaking French, just like there are still backwaters in Louisiana that speak an unintelligible language they brought with them. The Gullahs do it in coastal Carolina. And just like in neighborhoods all throughout metro cities world wide that speak a foreign language. But the signs, documents, the official language of what was previously France would have been German.

Wow, so WW1 never happened?

Did any colonial powers have a good record after ww2? The game kind of changed on that front

Is it true that LSU chose their colors because purple is associated with royalty and yellow is associated with cowardice? Is royal pussy the look they were going for? If so, they hit the bullseye.

Why is this lie still being given legs in the face of contradicting evidence? What does “drop weapons and surrender” mean to you?

The Battle of Verdun?

You know, this thread started off as a joke but it ended up showing most Alabama fans were too busy passing flirty notes to their cousins in history class

Because the Americans and the Brits kicked their asses out. Look at the fight Britain put up when V2 rockets and Luftwaffe bombs rained down on them. They held firm. The cheese-eating surrender monkeys dropped their weapons and rolled out the red carpet for Germany.

For one thing, Britain had the advantage of the English Channel. There’s a reason why Britain hasn’t been successfully invaded since 1066. Second it wasn’t a high priority for the Nazis to land an invading force in Britain. They just wanted to knock them out of the war, not invade.

Third, France had not recovered from WWI. All the major western theater battles were fought on French soil.

Fourth, France made the mistake of assuming the Ardennes forest was impassable for tanks. The Maginot line was an amazing fortification, but France made a fatal miscalculation since Germany was able to go through Belgium and the Ardennes forest.

Fifth, they didn’t completely roll over as you claim. Statistics show just how brutal the fighting was. Around 60,000 French soldiers were killed between May and June. The German military lost 30 percent of its tanks and planes during the Battle of France. Its death toll is estimated at 27,000 killed and missing in June and 21,000 in May.

Ultimately France was stuck in the WWI mindset and was unprepared for the risks the Germans took in their all out Blitzkrieg.

And of course I’m not even mentioning the partisans and guerilla warfare carried out by the French resistance.

Are you kidding ?

I’ve got a plethora of Miller Lite-drinking, fat and balding fricks raging and sitting in their doublewide calling the most successful European military power in the world “pussies” when the most physical altercation they’ll see this year is throwing their old lady around the house when DeBoer sucks

Thread is perfect

I was raised by people who were there liberating their sorry asses. Name one thing I said that was false, you cowardly French bastard. Your folks were fricking cowards. Luckily mine shipped out to fight off the Germans. No just one World War, but two of them.

You didn’t have to tell me you were a boomer, I already knew that. And my grandparents were in the same fight, so you and I are actually the exact same on that one: we didn’t do shite.

To answer your irrational question I didn’t take a position one way or another on your thoughts on the French. That’s an opinion, I don’t care. But your reading comprehension sucks. Literally all I was laughing at is how dumb you are: not the position you are trying to take on the French, but the unintelligent way in which you carry yourself online. I would have made the exact same point if some boomer posted a fake pro-French meme. This is just a weird thing that unintelligent and the more emotional boomers do online. I’m assuming you have a massive Facebook presence?

The French didn’t win WWI. Just like the war that followed, they were getting bled out and were on the fast track to annihilation before the Brits, Americans, Canadians, and Australians bailed them out. It seems to be a pattern.

The French Foreign Legion is the only well regarded thing about France’s military. But only 30% of the Legion are native Frenchmen. The other 70% are foreign born soldiers. That is why they can actually fight.

People on here lose their minds when Alabama fans talk about Bear Bryant. That was ancient history. Yet here we are talking about Napoleon.

Napoleon was responsible for the deaths of between 3 and 6 million people. Some people consider him to be one of the three anti-Christs mentioned in the bible.

He ended his career with a poorly thought out campaign to invade Russia. The campaign ended with a catastrophic retreat by France’s crippled army. This campaign led to his abdication and exile to a barren, rocky island. Yay Napoleon!
