it wasn't the ability to pay players, it was the ability to get away with it at Bama.

You think our big advantage was our ability to pay players?

This is going to be difficult for you to understand and accept, but Bama got away with more than other programs. Most if not all major programs were doing some cheating, but Bama was able to do so out in the open without any media pressure or NCAA investigations.

Is this opinion, fact, or bullshite, Patrick?

You only have to show your work with one of the above options. Choose wisely.

A 72 year old man retires and I’ve seen idiots on this board blame it on everything from “he’s not allowed to illegally pay players any more” to “he’s scared of our slight younger, yet still old and sick looking coach”.

This place is nuts.

If Alabama wasn’t behind in NIL, that half punt MFer would still be coaching.

Half punts? Don’t be changing the subject here.

Seriously though, I could feel your shaking as I read your post. I am surprised that was the only typo.

Good. Because your salary was never capped, coach. To hear Saban talk about players getting paid too much is either the least self-aware or most intellectually dishonest thing I've ever heard him say.

Well stated, Gideon.

I agree that obscene coaching salaries are partially responsible for where we are now. Players looked at coaches with 8 figure contracts while they would get suspended if they got caught taking a $100 handshake and said frick this.

But what drove the coaching arms race was us.

We are the people that killed the golden goose.

So your saying they Let Nick pay players every single year
yet punished & fired Pruitt for doing the same
You just need to get over your butthurt from losing to
Nick for 17 years. Relax, he's gone. You should feel better already knowing your team is gonna pulverize us from this day forward. Don't you?

You don't think players were getting paid to play for Bama under Saban? Wow.

Did he cheat the same exact way as he did in LSU when he won that title there? Asking for a friend.

I'm sure had Nick stayed at YOUR school and won 6 titles, you'd be posting those same pics and accusing him of cheating, right?

Of course Saban's players at LSU were paid. You are completely naive to think players could make money at rival schools, but played for Bama because of their love for the Tide.

Alabama got put on three years probation, was fined $44000, and had to vacate a bunch of wins because athletes sold their textbooks at the end of the semester. The NCAA hammered Alabama because they said because the athletes received the textbooks at no charge as part of their scholarship and then sold them, they were impermissible benefits. Again, Alabama got three years of probation because athletes across 16 different sports sold their text books at the end of the semester. But you were saying?

The NCAA announced those penalties in 2009.

Guess who became NCAA President the next year? Saban’s buddy Mark Emmert.

While Alabama was still on probation, DJ Fluker received extra benefits.

Of course, that all got swept under the rug.
