He's running the conference, how long will it be til he gets to the Elite Eight and beyond? To those Big Blue Idiots that think they can get him any time they want, he doesn't need you.
Let's not get hyperbolic. Oates may be a decent coach, but his style won't win a championship in my opinion. He recruits shooters, tells them to run to the three point line, and throw up a zillion threes a game. If they are hot, they can win like they did against Clemson. If they are off, the will get whipped off the map against teams like UCONN.
There was one point in that Clemson game where I didn't see Bama even attempt a two point shot for like five minutes. I'm curious as to why you guys say he is such an awesome coach. Like I said, he's good, but let's not get carried away with this.

I will make this quick and to the point. Oats has been at Alabama 5 seasons. In those 5 seasons he has:
The most total wins of any SEC coach
2 SEC Titles
2 SEC Tourney titles
4 straight NCAA tournament appearances
3 Sweet 16s
1 Elite 8
1 Final Four
At Alabama. In Basketball. That is why.

It definitely is a good start. He's a dick and fits right into Bama mentality of winning at all costs.
He's a true Gump. CONGRATS...Bama fans couldn't spell basketball before Oats and now they are die hard life long fans.
It's a miracle and now that the Bama football dynasty is OVER, they are the purest BB fans in History.
Once Bama beats UCONN and Purdue or State, they'll be a new BB dynasty???

The sports world is too soft. We need a little more "hate" in the conference in all sports. It makes the games way more enjoyable. It makes the conversations between fanbases more fun.
Back when I was growing up you hated your rivals. Now everyone is everyone's friend on fb or Twitter. So I like to see some hate. Crazily enough though I also like that to come with good sportsmanship.

Oats coaches based on analytics…a 3 counts more than a 2 if you’re hitting 35% or better from that range. Either shoot from beyond the arc or get in the paint for a layup or a dunk. Bama missed a shitload of easy shots within five feet of the basket against Clemson or it would’ve been a blowout.
I saw a shot chart of the Clemson game (will try to find it) and Bama took one midrange shot the entire game. Everything else was a 3 or underneath the basket.

I get that, but when he runs into teams like he will with UCONN, I’m not sure this strategy is going to do a thing.

This makes 0 sense.
What "strategy" does work? The one Illinois was running?
Alabama didn't live and die by the 3 as much last year when we were a #1 seed. This is a rebuilding year, in which we have no paint protection. You're watching a coach get the best out of his team. And it's worked to get us a F4.

Never seen his practice, but how he can consistently get a group to shoot 3s like they do is unreal. Not 1 player multiple. It’s crazy

You mean a team that is 35-3; all three loses to quad one teams; and looks unstoppable may win?
You think they might beat Alabama?
Way to go out on a limb.

Yeah in 5 years he has won the conference twice, the conference tournament twice, reached the S16 twice, got to the program's first Final Four, and has recruited as well as anyone not named Duke or Kentucky, but he might lose to a historically dominant UConn team in the Final Four so none of that other stuff matters.

First, they shoot a LOT of them. IIRC, they try to get 100 makes. Not shots, makes. Sam Walters said they shoot 400-500 a day after practice.
As far as the general concepts, here's a story from when he was first hired that talks about his methods. LINK

Nate Oats gave BAMA the number one overall seed for the Big Dance. They were the only team who only had to pack one color jersey.
