Funny how you say that now after this news broke.
I find it admirable that academically rigorous schools like Northwestern and Notre Dame have such high numbers.

But the scandal at UNC a few years ago - a school that is an AAU member and has academic prestige - show that public universities don't really care about the student part for student-athletes in revenue sports. I think you're going to see more schools trending in UGA's direction, TBH.

For the record, only 13 of the 34 that are counted as non graduates during this time period are Kirby's players.

"Georgia had 34 players who did not graduate during the 4-year cohort, of which 13 of those arrived after Smart was hired in December of 2015." Athens Banner Herald

The period these numbers are from are 2013-2016. They expect the numbers to rise in the coming years.

So UGA is a cutting-edge visionary school blazing a new path for the future?

UGA's rates are so far below everyone else that the rest of pack can take an academic year off just to fall to UGA's level.

If your recruiting class is >85% 4*-5* players, they ain't going there to play school.

Hell, that's directly from a former Alabama player.

Allusion makes absolutely no sense here, lmao. Usually people will just say "oh speech-to-text failed"

While the above is true, UGA's rate is shocking to say the least. There has to be an error in the numbers. Have Smart/Brooks challenged the numbers or requested transparency in the calculations?

Wasn't there a rule at some point, that if you didn't graduate a minimum percentage of players you couldn't participate in the postseason? That seems to ring a vague bell.

I used to know a walk-on football player who said it was actually important for them to graduate so the percentages stayed up. I think it had to do with the NCAA

The NCAA had a graduation % rule that had to be meet OR teams/coaches would have to take a reduction in the number of signees they could take until they could get their numbers up to par.

That graduation rate was serious to any AD because no program wanted to have a scholarship reduction in any sport. It'd be like self-imposing sanctions with scholarship reductions.

Well, technically yes. They can't get lower than 0, but there are 40 other numbers between 0 and 41.

Its made even funnier because they pretend they are this incredible academic institution. "Harvard of the South" was the branding at one point. Their classes aren't harder, professors better, degree better, etc at UGA, the applicant base just gets inflated by the HOPE program

Tennessee’s acceptance rate is 75%

Alabamas player graduation rate is higher than normal students..seems odd (as are other schools). Guess they probably don’t have the same type of rigor for athletes as other students. Otherwise explain how less academically talented student (on average) do better than their more talented/non athletic counterparts.

Nope. Nice try though. "We ain't come here to play skool" was said by Ohio State standout Cardale Jones.

I DON'T understand how ALL the graphs have a steady decrease...EXCEPT UGA.

Seems VERY odd that it doesn't happen anywhere else.

I thought that was Foster who said that. My fault.

With NIL, kids can pay their own way easily so any NCAA imposed scholarship reduction means jack shite. The CFP Committee isn't going to make any team worth of being in the CFP be excluded from the CFP because of academics.

The NCAA doesn't exist anymore with regards to major CFB. Any graduation rate numbers they impose are meaningless.

How many has Bama, while also maintaining a 93% graduation rate?

I don’t know that’s why I’m asking.

Let’s not pretend the two are equals academically.

The tutoring and academic counselors, coupled with easier majors means they almost have to try to fail their classes. They also take summer classes so they can get ahead in terms of their credit hours.

If anything the problem is that colleges in general have started offering non-rigorous majors.

What will a school do when the NCAA rules a student-athlete ineligible to play in a NCAA sanctioned sport?

As a fan, we can all say the NCAA is meaningless. I guess we'll see just how meaningless the NCAA really is when a player is ruled ineligible mid-season.

Tennessee isn't calling itself "The Harvard of the South"

Tennessee doesn't have more athletes NOT graduting than graduating

That makes it worse. You used allusion when you should have used illusion. It’s fine, but no need to double down.
