Thorne’s ceiling is average to slightly above average. If he had people to actually catch the ball last year and wasn’t having look over his shoulder at Robbie people would be a lot more high on him. I think the offense will look better under him this year.
I fully agree!

A patchwork OL and patchwork WR group will make any QB's job really tough. Our OL situation heading into last year was a disgrace, then got slightly better. We had to tear it down at some point to rebuild it. Freeze tore it down, now we are rebuilding. To do it the right way takes time

No matter how much sense you make to some of these dudes, they'd rather be Miserable and ignore basic logic. I'm beginning to think it's a complete troll Job. Thorne+Coleman+Freeze play calling=(solid)improvement. It's that simple.

I don't believe that one bit. We may not have gone to the championship but we would've been much better.
I don’t either. It’s like some people just started watching football. Cam won the natty and was the only offensive player on that team that took a single snap in the NFL.

Thorne is absolute shite quarterback. He has been since he came to Auburn. He will be after he leaves Auburn.
He’s in year 5. He’s not magically going to get better. In fact, he’s steadily declined every year he’s been in college.

We are just sacrificing the year if he is our quarterback
Correct. Especially if the plan is to make a run in 2025. PT’s ceiling is mediocre, so you might as well let one of the young QBs get experience this year.

I never guaranteed Salter was coming.
No you guaranteed Freeze was going after a portal QB and that Cam Ward was going to visit per your sources. Then that Salter was going to enter the portal, then spring happened and during spring it was as Salter is gonna transfer in the next window because he wants to finish the year out.
Not sure why your bad takes hurt your feeling so much. You should just stay away from QB analysis, your record is 0-5 or whatever it is.
Thorne will be upper middle SEC QB. No one on here is saying Thorne is going to New York and been telling you for 2 years now that other positions were in more need then QB especially for the money that starting elite QBs would require. On that if Hank Holden Walker , or new high school QB isn’t ready to win 10 games in ‘25 I fully expect to go out and get a top portal QB because the roster should be in a position to compete.
So quit being such a dick wad about the QB spot. It wasn’t time to spend the money on a portal QB. Next season possibly. That’s what no one can get through your thick skull

He won't stop. Myself and several other people tried highlighting this to him, but the just keeps on trolling. We know what Thorne is. NONE of us believe him to be a superstar or a savior. Basic logic and football knowledge tell you that if a guy is surrounded with better weapons and resources he'll improve or Play solid. No matter how many times we say this he'll just keep going. I wanted Salter, Ward, and Leonard but our coach is NOW showing the plan. We are spending our cash on 6-7 pieces instead of just 1-2 big peices.

He'll have to significantly cure his happy feet and propensity to throw lame duck screen passes to the other team for that to happen.
I think he'll improve, but with OU and Texas coming in, "upper middle" would be a major step. He was statistically near the bottom of SEC QBs last year and turned the ball over more than any QB besides Leary. You can't blame ALL of that on receivers nor will one or two freshmen completely fix it. If he can make more yards with his arm than his feet and stop turning the ball over, I think we can improve our record over last year, even with the tougher schedule. Hopefully we can invest a little more in bringing in a top shelf QB after that.

It's not a troll job. You just feel that your opinion is right and mine is wrong. Neither of us know anything about the actual team. We are just basing our opinions on what we see
And what I have seen from watching football for over 45 years is that quarterbacks do not all the sudden learn to play the position in their senior season after they have had plenty of playing time. Not enough to honestly make us better. Yes we could win two more games this year if every thing clicks but is that honestly your hope for this team in Freezes second year?
And what about next season? Start all over again? Playing him this year is a mistake. It is going to cost us. I think some of you see it and understand that but for some reason, you have some kind of blue sky look at him. I honestly just do not see it. He was total arse in the spring game. Not talking about stats. He looked exactly the same as he did last year
So now, he has August practice to become a better than average QB. I just dont see it happening
Since we were unable for the second year in a row to lock down a capable QB through any measure, we should bail on Thorne and let someone else play. Especially since a lot of people seem to be looking for a 8 win season to be the goal
Basically my take

You idiots said the same thing about Nix. Probably Campbell too, Secondly, Thorne has already demonstrated he has 27 TD-10 INT type seasons in him. He has done that in the P5. So what Thorne are you speaking to.
Speak less so people don't know how dumb you are- ancient Chinese proverb.

So your hope is that Thorne will pull a Jason Campbell? The one guy in the last 30 years that got better. Im sorry but Thorne does not have Ronnie Brown, Caddy and the assortment of receivers that Campbell had. And he has shown zero signs of getting better. Did you watch the spring game? He looked like he was out of place. Again
What about all the other quarterbacks that did not all the sudden blow it out? Not just the one that did.
I hope you are right but I honestly do not see it.

quote:Honestly? Yes. When Freeze took the job the only team you could say for sure was worse off than us was Vandy. I feel like you've kind of lost track of how deep the hole was and that everyone said his rebuild was going to take a while. Freeze had a plan from the beginning and we are basically right on track. Year 3 and 4 we're always the years we would be looking at, because we knew it would take that long to fix the roster.
Yes we could win two more games this year if every thing clicks but is that honestly your hope for this team in Freezes second year?

Stidham and Bo did but I do understand your point. And technically Sean White and TJ both started 2 seasons. They just didnt complete them
If JT's point is that year 3 and 4 is going to be out "wait till next year" times, why start Thorne this year? If year 3 is a marked year to make a move, are we going to do that with a brand new starting qb with none or limited playing experience?
I believe playing him this year is a mistake

Dude, if you and several others aren't trolling then I'm even more perplexed. Ok, so we all agree Peyton didn't play well at points last year correct? I think MOST of us can acknowledge the reason for his failures were sometimes self inflicted, and sometimes things OUTSIDE of his control right? For example he made poor reads, missed targets late, or held on to the ball and got sacked correct?? Because of this you and this band of Thorne haters think that he's awful. Fair enough. What about the receivers not running the right routes? Shane Hooks, Shorter, and Nick mardner being awful and never getting open? The offensive coordinator not being on the right page with ANYONE apparently? Let's not forget offensive line not blocking and providing him with adequate protection (at points). You're entitled to your opinion just as much as I'm entitled to having my own, BUT his time at Michigan St showed us what he's capable of in a more cohesive situation. I'm simply shocked that someone who has 45 years of watching football can't see that the issues we had last year went beyond Peyton. I feel like people here are being unreasonable and on edge because we haven't experienced a decent Auburn season since 2019......

He did, and multiple sources said the same thing. Miami just outbid us.

Salter did enter the portal, he did visit Auburn, but once again Auburn doesn’t offer his major. So his credits wouldn’t transfer, or else he’d be QB1 right now. We’ll see what happens over the next month.
Once again, can you not read or can you not comprehend what you read? You can cry and act like you know what you’re talking about, meanwhile acting oblivious that Freeze has tried his damndest to get a QB to replace below average Thorne. 3 QBs (at minimum) were offered in the 1st portal window. If a QB worth a flip enters in the 2nd window, Freeze will be after him.

My position is that he will look more like 2021 if we give him similar advantages. Your position is that with better receivers, better cohesion in terms of play calling and game planning, along with better blocking he's STILL going to suck right? I disagree, and I guess the season will prove me right or wrong brother.

Hopefully when PT struggles game 1 or 2 against cupcakes again, Freeze will bench him and never look back.
