GameDay has sucked for a while. Before the portal and NIL.

But I'm with you. I rarely find myself watching a game that doesn't involve UGA. My Saturdays no longer revolve around CFB. Kids stuff, enjoying the outdoors, being involved with my community, and other things are more important than football.

I used to DVR College Football Live and watch it when I'd get home. I now can't even tell you if it is still on the air.

I stream WJOX at work just as background noise because Spotify and a lot of other things are firewalled.

I'd rather be showing my kids how to do basic car care and maintenance than watching some 18-22 year olds who don't even know I exist play a game that has zero impact on me.

I haven't bought anything with the UGA logo on it since right after the CFP Championship in Indianapolis.
I, for one, can appreciate your opinion, but why then continue to post on a sports forum?...just curious.

Yep. I don't just think that because we ran the table that year either. College football as a whole hasn't been the same since.

Kirby has aged 20 years over the last 5. He better rattle off a string of them pretty soon if he’s gonna do it.

I get that Pate is a big time podcast guy now, but I highly doubt big name coaches are confiding in him

The conferences, universities, coaches, and players are all making money and unabashedly asking the everyday fan to pay for it. Burn it all down or let it wither on the vine.

I love how everyone keeps lamenting the changes and predicting the demise of the sport, when the viewership numbers and revenue just keep going up, up, up!

The vast majority of viewers are only tuning in for 12-13 teams. Also…everything was hunky dory for Wall Street during the Roaring Twenties until the Crash of ‘29.

The highest ranked teams bring the highest viewership. This is NOT new.

The same thing would happen if they started putting free porn on TV.

I joined here to talk about the Braves on the ATL Sports board. It became pretty dead.

I still go to a few Braves home games a year and try to make it to at least one away game every season. Last year was Cincinnati.

I appreciate the banter and the melts. Unless there is absolutely nothing else going on I'm not going to watch a game like Arky vs. State but the shite talking is fun to read prior to the game, on the scoreboard, and after the game.

I stopped posting on here towards the end of the regular season because the "Tennessee" alts were just so bad. Now it is really just the DUI King with constantly shitty posts. Even TexAg7 isn't completely worthless.

If the current tu posters are any indicator, I'll take another hiatus after the wave of those users join closer to CFB season.

link to my last post in November before taking a break from here.

And the thread got anchored.

Multiple college football coaches, some of whom are giants in the sport, have spoken to him off the record and have told him in no uncertain terms that they are thinking about retiring unless things change within the next couple of years.
Guys making $5mm per year are going to retire because now players are making money.

I'm super sympathetic to them.

I'd probably agree with these guys critiques but I also don't believe any of these guys will retire

Part of me feels like some of this started when regular fans were priced out. Back then we would tailgate weekly, with friends as a large group.

Now its hard to find post college people who want to fight traffic and tailgate. So collectively our care level has just dwindled. I missed watching a few games this year, it didnt bother me a bit.

Could also be an effect of covid and our time away from football

It's not NIL that's making them retire, it's the portal rules. Saban was the best recruiter ever, but at 72 he simply didn't want to have deal with recruiting your own team every off season. Most will feel the same way. Make transfers have to sit out 1 season and a lot of the problems go away. Make them sign non compete clauses with their NIL deals enforceable up to 1 year.

Pate has a way of talking a lot without saying anything. He should go in to politics.

I think the pricing out had to have a lot to do with it I started having this feeling around 2013 or 2014 I think. I still made sure I attended at least 1 UGA game every season, but I didn't go to one last year or in 2022.

COVID didn't help, that's for sure.

It's like okay, I enjoy fishing even if I don't catch anything, but I can't say I enjoy dropping several hundred dollars on 2 tickets, a hotel room, and fighting all the packed restaurants during a gameday weekend especially if UGA loses.

At least I can blame myself for not catching anything.

Hard to feel sorry for these coaches that make $7-10 million a year bc NIL/Portal makes their jobs harder. Cry me a river.

NIL/Portal ruins it for the fans, who are the reason the sport is so big to begin with.

My sentiments as well. Not sure I watched 5 bowl games altogether.

Additionally I have compleltely given up on the NBA. Haven't seen a single game in 3+ years. Similar for NFL.
Watched a handful of NFL games this year because my wife is a huge Bills fan. Other than that... done with it.

College basketball and college baseball I still like a lot. I'm sure they are going to figure out how to frick all that up as well.
