Is there a reason I would care about this?

Sound reasoning.

I really don't think Bama was ever going to pay his $20 mil buyout, which is why I don't think we ever offered him the job. Byrne may have put out feelers whenever he knew Saban's retirement was a real possibility, but I they wanted to pay a $20 mil buyout.

We never met with Lanning. He was on a call list, but Deboer was always the first choice. DeBoer is 3-0 vs Lanning and 2-0 vs Sark. A 48-hour search is likely a record.

Great info and thanks for taking us behind the scenes. What is your title as part of the Bama Athletic Department? I bet that war room was exciting to be a part of as you guys made these decisions.

Wrong answer. I posted here that I thought Lanning was the first choice, but i may be wrong. DeBoer, though, was at least the 2nd reasonable choice.

Telling bamas to frick off

tDecline is real

Your obsession is appreciated.

Starting a thread 84 days since your last arse whipping appreciated.

You have no idea what went on behind the scenes, but the truth is 45 hours after the news was announced at the University, they had DeBoer signed.

I've told you corndogs well before this event - 'we'll get who we want'.

We did.

Keep up the good work! Living rent-free in tigas' head, every day of their life.

This is what should be talked about. Probably never got much further than vetting. The buyout is rumored to be more than the $20 million. Something to do with Nike stock too? We will just never really know. But Lanning has a program of his own to sell. Of course he’s going to mention the Alabama talk if asked.

All I know is that Alabama could not have hired a head coach in 48 hours if they were having serious talks with more than one candidate. It took Michigan 48 hours and they pretty much knew who they were hiring before their coach even left.

Michigan could have made it official 5 minutes after Harbough announced. The reason they had to wait 48 hours is due to Michigan State EOE laws when hiring a state employee.

He was never interviewed nor offered the job. He had a 30 million dollar buyout. He was never even an option. But in typical dumbass trolling fashion you suck at that too.

Nah man, Alabama interviewed and offered Lanning, Norvell, and Sarkisian then hired DeBoer in 48 hours.

Alabama has 81 players on scholarship right now. They had to lose a lot of guys when you sign a full class every year. Hell, most everyone loses a lot of guys in this portal era. The four starters that left can’t be easily replaced. I get that. But I don’t think people realize how damn deep Alabama is.

DeBoer has stemmed the flow and kept the signing class in place (aside for two deflections). Still about 12 days left in the 30 day coaching change window but it seems to have settled down now.

You were talking to the FSU guy. DeBoer was the third, maybe second after the NCAA with MN. Lanning makes too much money. A lot on the side outside of his coach pay.

I’m sure Norvell was vetted. But Byrne could not have met with all these candidates in a 24 hour period and still been in Seattle the day after Saban retired to pursue DeBoer.
