It seems fsu Twitter ppl are convinced that Norvell was offered the job and he turned Bama down

On the scale of 1-10 - how delusional are they? Was he offered the job?

I believe he was contacted about the job. Not sure how far those conversations got.

I think a good agent would surely set the stage to convince FSU of that lol

I think there were several people whose names Jimmy Sexton tossed around.

Everyone got raises and Jimmy got 10% for the himself.

That dude can finally afford to eat something.

The fact that DeBoer was signed in 48 hours, hard to believe that anyone else was really offered

"Sports agent Jimmy Sexton is one of the most influential names in football, as he represents Nick Saban, Kirby Smart, Steve Sarkisian, Mike Norvell, Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin and DeBoer."

Now for all you geniuses out there, Sexton has been using this little move since "Buck was a private" to get raises for his clients. Just wait a week and check to see which of these coaches got raises.
By the way, DeBoer left a 9.5 million dollar offer to come to Alabama for less money!

If Smart wasn't even offered the job, even if his response was "sure, for a 10 year/ $12 Trillion dollar deal", then Byrne needs to be sent packing.

No.

He got a raise because he had a good season and Alabama just happened to have a coaching vacancy.

He threw a frickin tantrum and lost his entire team. There's no way he was offered the job.

This. I am sure that Byrne called and asked Sexton if he had anyone interested. That's just standard operating procedure first call type of stuff. I would doubt that anyone from Bama actually had a real conversation with Norvell or anyone else for that matter before the deal was a serious possibility with DeBoer.

Byrne said the deal was done in 49 hours. That tells me that DeBoer really was one of, if not THE top candidate.

No.
Alabama not going to even think about hiring a coach for a program in trouble with NCAA, not to mention one that throws ridiculous fits

Byrne said they contacted a lot of people just to get an idea of interest, so it's possible he was contacted. I doubt we'll ever know 100%, but it seems pretty clear DeBoer was very high on the list.

People need to realize Jimmy Sexton represents Saban, DeBoer, Norvell, Harbaugh, Sark, and Lanning.

He’s playing the game and ended up getting all guys involved a raise.

Athletic said Norvell was never officially offered.

Alabama fans should hold their heads up and be proud. Nothing to be ashamed of getting their fourth choice coach. I'm sure he is a fine man and is good to his family.

Other than casually asking Sexton while formulating a long list, I would be shocked if Norvell was contacted in any manner.

He didn’t fit the mold of anything Greg Byrne was looking for, and his team folded up and quit on him when it counted. There’s not a Bama fan alive that would have been happy with that hire. We didn’t want him and neither did our AD.

This is really it. Context clues from the press conference: DeBoer spoke with Saban yesterday and Sexton showed up to the UA Athletics complex around mid-morning to early afternoon.

I don't think Lanning was a primary target. That was shite-stirring from a local TV guy to help Oregon and Lanning get some free publicity.

They probably asked Sexton about the names you've all heard, he gave them his assessment of his client's interest and the financial encumberments to access them, and Byrne+Saban made the call to DeBoer for an interview.

I have no doubt that Sexton used Alabama's interest in them to secure better deals for his clients but there is no way Alabama could have done this in 48 hours if they did a bunch of interviews and offered multiple candidates. You're smoking crack if you think any candidate would say no on the spot. They'd at least ask to think on it to talk to their family and let their agent squeeze their current employer. Especially since this is a 1 seat position, you can't interview and offer multiple people without burning trust in the coaching community.

Alabama only talked to Sexton at first then let him work out who were the interested candidates. After they had the real suitors, Sexton worked his magic for everyone else, and Alabama engaged with DeBoer.

How many guys do you think Greg Byrne flew to see in the 24 hours after Saban announced his retirement?

I think the same and I’d bet Sexton will used the casual ask to get Norvell (and himself) more money
