No. Playing for a championship means final game or at least final four.
No one who makes the sweet 16 or elite 8 in basketball says they are playing for a championship.
12 team playoff is not the same playoff we have had to now. You don't get to count them as the same.

What is Brian Kelly’s shining achievement, exactly? Getting his arse kicked in 2012 by Bama? One of his sterling season at Cincinnati? Taking a Heisman QB and shatting the bed in every way possible and barely scraping by a 7 win Wisconsin?

Kiffen has never won anything at S.Cal. Tenn& now O.Miss. Not a NC. A conference championship. A division championship. Never beat Saban. The opposite: he was fired on the runway at S.Cal. He ran out of Tenn.in the middle of the nite as sofas were burning around the athletic dept. With the NCAA sniffing all around his program. He put up over 50+ points last year against LSU, gaining over 700 yards, the worst in LSU history & still faced losing the game on 2 last second passes from inside the 25 yard line.

And he was 1-2 against Kelly at USC. And Kelly waxed USC the year he was fired so it would have been 1-3 had Lane been good enough to not get left on the tarmac after Arizona St
