And most everyone on this board is asking where it all went wrong.

I know a lot of us have a national championship or bust mentality, myself included, but sometimes it helps to take a step back and remember what we still have and what we didn't used to possess.

One or two plays away from disaster
One or two plays away from winning it all

Any year you win the SEC Championship it’s a good year. Was great to show Georgia who the top dog in the SEC is again. Hopefully the team uses this playoff loss as motivation to win it all next year.

Some our fans who have been all doom and gloom since our season ended might be a little spoiled. Of course we all want to win the NC every year but that’s not possible.

This is Michigan’s second national championship since 1948. National championships aren't as easy to win as Saban has made it look.

Yep. Considering the circumstances. A great year.

What happened to 1997? You seem to overlook facts when making arguments.

Probably Saban's best coaching year to pull off what the team did.

The win over Georgia cost them a three peat. They would have boat raced through the playoffs

They’ve won two since 1948, same point stands, they aren't easy to win. Some of our fans take for granted the run we have been on under Saban. Just because Saban has made it look east doesn’t mean it is easy.

Before Saban got here we had won one National Championship in the previous 30 years.

I think so. This team was always going to be a “rebuild” year.

We achieved a ton and I thought it was a fun year seeing the team grow like they did.

With that being said; the one thing that blows my mind is the snapping issue. We saw growth everywhere including OL but we couldn’t fix that? This is a big assumption but I suppose we didn’t make that change as Seth was a leader on the OL. We had some inexperienced folks on the line.

This is a middling season for Saban.

Not saying that to denigrate the team, but to show how high of a standard Alabama has set.

The 6 national titles are obviously better than this year.

I'd say 2014 would rank ahead of this too. So this season would probably be the 8th best season for Bama under Saban. A 12 win, SEC title season.

I disagree. Any overachieved season is not “middling”. Last year was a “middling” season. That team shite the bed HARD.

Do you know what middling means?

Last year's team would rank in the bottom 1/3.

This year's team would rank in the middle. Middle = middling.

What a fricking joke. Texas hasn’t won a national championship since 2005 and our team won 12 games including the SEC championship with an overhauled offense. Yep, definitely a middling job.

To follow up on my previous post, why isn’t Texas getting criticism for losing to Washington back to back years in bowl games ? They should’ve beaten UW in the Sugar Bowl.

It was a really great season. After week 3, I was just hoping we would win 8 games.

It's Natty or bust at Bama. If we don't win it all then burn it all down and find new starters at every position. Ppl are crazy.

Cole and Greg were listing their top 3 CFB players for next year and Cole listed about 10 UGA players without even mentioning a Bama guy. He actually pushed back on Caleb Downs saying he came on strong late. I normally like Cole too.

Just another example of Alabama being judged on a different scale.

This success has also caused fanbases (looking at you LSU) to lose their ever loving minds. We are hard on ourselves when we lose and it doesn't help when the rest of the country basically throws a parade when we lose too.

The Texas standard and the Alabama standard are not the same. Texas just had its best season in 14 years. This would probably be the 8th or 9th best season for Bama in the last 14 years.

You’re kidding me aren’t you ? Texas is arguably the most lucrative job in college football with their in state talent base and resources. They have underperformed majorly for years. Alabama is certainly a great program with tremendous tradition but Texas and Texas A&M for that matter have underachieved in a major way.

I am not kidding that Texas and Alabama have two different standards. Texas has 1 national title in the past 50 years. The standard isn't "national title or bust" at Texas.
