I’m all aboard the 4-2-5. Never a fan of the 3-3-5 stack. You have to have almost perfect edge setting to contain

Hope we can stop a 4th and long now. Tired of the bend but don't break defense. Would be nice to shut people down. Especially the Marylands and New Mexico States of the world

Is he an elite defensive coach? If so, I could give af about the rest.

SEC stats for A&M under Durkin in 2023:

3rd in points allowed
1st in total yards allowed
2nd in passing yards allowed
1st in rushing yards allowed
1st in sacks

Seems pretty good.

Very good indeed. They also had a shite ton of 5 stars - that helps.

And yet we’ll have a bunch here say “Hugh should have done better”.

2023 results while A&M as a team was struggling.
Florida DC picked by Muschamp. A very strongly defensive minded coach. Who still speaks very highly of him.
Recruiter of the year.
Kept close by Saban…who was likely to hire him as DC this year

I think we should be very happy with this hire. If/when it happens

Will he boost recruiting AND fix our defense at the same time? If so, what's not to like? Has he been a top recruiter after the Maryland incident, which I now know he was cleared of, but still curious

Durkin is a very solid coach. He is a good recruiter.

Question is what is his goals at this point. Is he jumping ship after a year? We need a staff and scheme in place for 24, 25, 26 at a minimum

Meant to add if he stays 4 years he would definitely be the “home run” type hire for DC. Our defensive staff would be very good and very experienced.

If his goal is to be a HC again then maybe he needs a strong 4 year run at 1 place?

Maybe that’s the question I have with hiring him.

I'm very meh on hiring him, not just because of the Maryland stuff.

I think he's just gonna bounce in 2 years or less.

ETA: The longest he's stayed anywhere in his entire career was 3 years, and that's when he was HC at Maryland.

That article reads the same as the others did yesterday. Does the source make it more credible?
