We Got Lucky

I'm going to get blasted for this but I believe the problems we had at the beginning of the year remained problems throughout the year. We just started playing better so it masked everything. But it all resurfaced the last 3 games. Let's be honest, if not for an absolute miracle we lose to Auburn. We let a few offensive plays at the end of the UGA game make us think we were better than we were (stats weren't good in that game), and everything we saw from Milroe in the beginning of the season, outside of turnovers, was there still tonight. We made ourselves believe that progress had been made when it hadn't.
Lets be objective. Yes, Milroe is very athletic. I believe he tries his best and wants to win. He might have progressed some during the season, but he is not the answer at QB. And I know, everyone says it's Rees or the bad snaps fault. This guy ran past the line of scrimmage TWICE and tried to pass the ball in the Aub game. That's high school mistakes that were being made in game 12.
LANK is cool and all but I didn't care for it. The "when everyone gave up on me" comments were moving and I get where he's coming from and how that must feel, but college football is a big business and it's even worse in the NFL. If the complaints against him weren't justified it'd be different but everything being said was true. You're the starting QB for one of the biggest brands in college football. There's a standard and a requirement that goes along with it. If you can't meet those then you don't need to start. Doesn't mean we don't like you personally, just that we believe we could do better (and I still think we should have stuck with Ty but that's a separate discussion). A poster earlier said that Milroe thought he had arrived when didn't. That's a good way of putting it. Heisman talk, beating UGA, LANK taking off, I don't know. Again, I like the kid and believes he wants to be the guy, but he's not. Hopefully he can grow and become the guy but he is not there yet and shouldn't be treated as such.
On a related note, if we fired our offensive line coach tonight it wouldn't be fast enough. That group has to improve.

Yeah we got lucky to make it to the playoff with a center that cant snap the ball accurately in Key situations all year.

Milroe did not develop as much as I’d hope, have to give you that. I do think he’s pretty athletic and if we could successfully scheme a spread/single-read attack that took decision making out of the equation, I’d feel better about him. But I don’t see that being very successful. I just think about Arkansas’ situation with Jefferson this season and shudder. But I don’t see him losing the job no matter who is behind him, which could also be a huge problem. Saban will want to redshirt Sayin, I’m sure. But if he’s the real McCoy, he should be an eligible competitor for the job year round.
Defense is good, but soft in the middle. You fix that and the pass rush might become a bigger presence, as well.

Wild how you guys have no problem scapegoating a certain player but other players can do no wrong and youre blind to their shortcomings…it’s always everyone else’s fault on the team.
It wasn’t on one guy. It wasn’t all on Milroe either…but he did not play well. That’s not debatable. It’s not all the O line’s fault either.

Milroe acted like he had already climbed the mountain top before the playoff. He let 4th & 31 and the UGA game (where he had maybe a B performance) make him believe he was a QB that in reality he wasn’t.
An Alabama offense with Jalen Milroe is good for three TDs a game (minus LSU whose defense was air and Kentucky). He got better at limiting the mistakes but it wasn’t like he truly turned the corner and became a dynamic QB.

Players are replaceable in today’s college game. They want to get paid like professionals then they will get the professional treatment. NFL players get benched all the time if they don’t perform. No one in college should be different now since they’re getting NIL money.

Why he said that is beyond me. Not only did it come back to bite him in his performance yesterday but it will look bad when he interviews with NFL executives and coaches. BOB is certainly not a popular guy but he’s a professional coach and that will not sit well with executives looking to make an investment.

The oline helped mask milroe. He did improve quite a bit on accuracy, and the offense improved as a whole when they started running him more.
