Saban can stay as long as he wants, but

I think we all know that the product on the field tonight was not up to Bama standards.
I think we also know that if Coach Saban went home tonight and sat at the kitchen table with Mrs. Terry and basically decided
It was no longer worth the grind, and that he was going to step down, and that he would recommend that we call Oxford, that we might actually avoid the inevitable decline.
The cupboard is not bare. We have the talent. But tonight has conviced me that the ship is no longer tight.
Regardless, I'm 100% on board. Coach has earned the right to take whatever time it takes to demonstrate to himself that he has changed and his program isn't up to his standards anymore.
I saw incompetence on that field. We need to bring someone in who can develop QBs. We need someone who can coach up an offensive line.
Saban is tired. It's obvious. Lets hope this doesn't deteriorate into a Bobby Bowden situation.

This may have been Saban's best coaching job since he's been here. Nobody thought this team would even sniff the playoff. And yet we lost in OT to the #1 team and probably should have won. We're not even close to a Bobby Bowden type of decline.

Most talented roster in CFB history. Development is sorely missing.

And Michigan was nothing compared to that Georgia and those Clemson teams we faced.
Nothing.
Michigan is Michigan. And we have fallen down to their level.

I see a team that was like 2014, the other semifinal loser, they got on a run in conference play and rolled to a conference title despite having many limitations.
2014 and 2023 are two of Saban's better coaching jobs in my opinion. Still, they got here despite many warts. Nobody should just sunshine pump past that fact. How did we get to the point where there are no star skill players, consistently bad OL play, and a 3rd year quarterback who can't process a defense quickly nor throw it consistently well save for 20+ yards down field?

Jam and Justice on the pine represent the best of the skill guys, and Rees cant get the ball to Kendrick Law 1 time. Law might as well transfer. Rees too stupid to play for

Really bad coaching hires over the past 5-6 years coupled with inflated recruiting rankings. Along with a 73 year old HC. Perfect storm got us to where we are.

quote:I don’t think so. They have fricking hosses and are well coached. They have recruited for their scheme and it shows. They play like the prime Tuberville Auburn teams. Hard nosed in the middle and athletic on the edges. They’re also less mistake prone.

Too many dudes at WR to not utilize them. I didn’t want to turn this year into another Tua/Hurts situation because I was just enjoying watching this team come together but ultimately the inability to throw the ball downfield came back to bite us.
Hopefully Milroe can take that next step. We’ll find out.
I have actual doubts now, though. Tonight was putrid.
I just don’t understand why we even recruit running QBs that need a lot of work in the passing dept if we’re dead set on keeping our QB in the pocket.
Our offense does not play to Milroe’s strengths. If you’re going to play him then go more up tempo and utilize the read option. Teach him to run it. It’s not that difficult.

Kiffin would kill to have Law.

Sark recruited Milroe, and it was 4D chess. Sark doesn't have a guy like Milroe on his roster at tejas, and wouldn't. Rees would never have recruited him.

I am glad you give him permission to stay

Let's wait for Kiffin to win even a divisional title before saying he would cause less decline than Saban.

He won’t get the chance. No more divisions after this year. But point taken, he’s won a lot of games including 11 this year with a quality bowl win, but he hasn’t “won” anything.

Saban has years left in him and he's still elite, but there's no doubt he doesn't have that "beat your arse on the sideline" dog in him. And that's fine. But making really good coaching hires is critical...and with the way we pay these guys, some need to be replaced.
Starting with a new OL coach. That's been needed for awhile and isn't just a knee jerk reaction from tonight. Our OL hasn't been up to Bama standards for several years.

Inside Line backers coach needs to be included as well. I’d say receivers coach and I’d at least shop around at OC. Can’t be wasting time at his age out of loyalty like he did with Pete Golding.
Next few years are going to be brutal schedules.

If the defense holds were are playing Wash. for a title. The problem ENTERED in 2014, 2015 when we went away from our TRUE Pro Set Offense we ran under center with Mac and Mac and Mac. Its much easier, IMHO, to play smash mouth football with a QB handing the ball off 2 yards deep instead of 5 to 7. To me, its stupid not to be able to pay under center, if you want to add in the others, OK, but players out to be able to play from under the damned center also. These runners are getting the ball too deep to hit a whole. Why change what was winning? I mean, without a screw job at Auburn, we would have won 4 out of 5 titles, its been downhill ever since, losing twice to Clemson, and once to UGA. Being able to run the ball gets the defense rest.

I beginning to think it’s possible that tonight was the ceiling for this current coaching staff.
I think Mich is a good football team. And I think this year has been a phenomenal coaching job in terms of improving a team that no one thought had any shot at making the playoffs, but when we are in the playoffs you have to be able to prepare a team for success and make adjustments to ultimately be successful.
I don’t think the current staff can do that, the last one definitely could not, but the DCs prior to Golding could and the OCs prior to BOB could.
Sabans previous staff hires have left him down over the past several years and his new staff hires let him down today.

Yall are crazy. This may be one of the bottom level teams talent/experience wise that Saban has had at Bama. They beat a vastly superior Georgia team in Atlanta due to great coaching.
What other team has a timebomb center, true freshman tackle, first year, one read starting QB and made the playoffs? Hell FSU needed a 6 year QB to win the ACC.
This team won an SEC title and im proud of them
