NASHVILLE, Tenn. — After what transpired in the Music City Bowl, and what transpired all season from the quarterback spot, Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze didn’t mince words when asked to assess the position heading into the offseason.

“It’s wide open,” he said shortly after Auburn’s 31-13 loss to Maryland.

The comments come after starter Payton Thorne finished 13-27 passing for 84 yards, one touchdown and one interception in the loss. Backup Holden Geriner entered in the fourth quarter and went 1-6 for eight yards and an interception, while true freshman Hank Brown finished 7-9 passing for 132 yards in garbage time.

So in other words Auburn will have 3 five star freshman wideouts next year with no QB to get them the ball consistently. That’s like putting a set of fifty thousand buck rims on a 89 Yugo.

It would seem to me that every position on that team is wide open!

“I think our quarterback room is going to be fine next year," Freeze said. "That is my belief. It’s what drives me to get the right pieces around them. ... If you go take (a transfer quarterback) you're probably going to lose Payton, Holden (Geriner). You'd better be right. I believe in Payton. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, but that's my belief.”

What’s been the problem with ashford? Guy looks like he could be a superstar with some decent coaching.
