Because Texas beat Alabama already. It’s the same reason they’ve been ahead of Bama all year. And yes they deserve it.

Playoff criteria. P5 undefeated teams in 1st. The P5 champions with 1 loss.
That puts Michigan and FSU as in. Then Washington, Texas, and Bama are looking to fill the last 2 spots. Washington avenged their only loss so they get a spot. Texas and Bama have a head to head matchup already with Texas winning the tiebreaker and getting the other slot.
