Best old fashion

I have had some very good old fashions while out at bars and restaurants. I do have a nice selection of bourbon/whiskey at my house that I like to have a pour of at night. I would like to change it up and I was wondering your best/favorite old fashion recipe? What’s your go-to bourbon or rye?

Emeril's Delmonico Old Fashion
1 Orange Slice
1 or 2 Maraschino Cherries
1/4 to 1/2 ounce Simple Syrup
4 to 5 dashes Peychaud bitters
Crushed Ice
Large Ice Cube
2 ounces Bourbon (Says Emeril, "Some New Orleanians prefer Rye Whiskey to Bourbon in their Old-Fashioneds. I sometimes like Scotch in mine. Your call!")
Place orange slice and cherry in a large shaker.
Add simple syrup and bitters.
Muddle orange slice and cherry with a cocktail spoon.
Add crushed ice and bourbon. Shake until well chilled.
Place large ice cube into an Old Fashioned Glass.
Strain or double-strain cocktail into glass.
Top with a splash of water.
Stir slightly to combine.
Add a second cherry if desired.
Serve immediately.

definitely not the classic but this is the one I like
squeeze 1/2 a satsuma into the glass, muddle the fruit a bit. Take it out, add a little honey and then bourbon, ice, bitters and a luxardo cherry

Can't help with a recipe, but the best one I have ever had was downtown Houston at a bar called Reserve 101.

I don't like mine very sweet:
Bar spoon Luxardo cherry juice
2-3 dashes bitters. I use orange, but pecan, standard, etc are great
2 oz bourbon or rye
Add large ice cube, stir until chilled. Can do this in a different glass if you want to wash another one
Express orange peel on top

3 oz rye or wheated bourbon
1/2 oz simple syrup
1/2 water
3 dash old fashioned bitters
2 dash orange bitters
1 luxardo cherry
1 candied orange peel
The 1/2 water is to balance the “extra” bourbon. Wife & I both drink OF’s and we’ve experimented a bunch but settled on the combo.

Cut an orange in half then slice a section bout 1/2" thick, take 1/4 of that section and add to a glass with 2 Luxardo cherries, a teaspoon of Luxardo cherry syrup, 3-4 dashes of Guapo Pecan Chicory bitters.
Muttle it up with about 5 good mashes on everything being sure to mash the orange peel.
Add 3 pieces of ice then top 3oz of your favorite 100 proof or higher bourbon.
Stir around for 20 seconds and enjoy.
If you like large cubed ice then mix the concoction in a cocktail mixing glass for 30 seconds with a large cube before pouring the mixture in an old fashioned glass.
Muttle it up with about 5 good mashes on everything being sure to mash the orange peel.

This way isn't for everyone but I enjoy it instead of drinking your typical OF. When I make my simple syrup I use equal parts water, brown sugar and chopped up pecans. I cook all 3 down for 15-20 minutes and let it sit for 1-2 hours then strain. It gives it a nice flavor to change the profile.

4-5 hits of Peychauds bitters
splash of water

Luxardo Cherry
Dissolve sugar with Bitters. Add splash of water. Add Bourbon and ice. Stir with Ice. Pour over large cube of Ice. Finish with Peel and Cherry.
If I am feeling fancy, I will smoke bourbon with cherry wood.

I think rye makes a better old fashioned than bourbon.
Best old fashioned I’ve ever made was with 291 M. Not sure how readily you can find it but it’s a Colorado distillery.
Not a fan of their whiskey beat but this bottle was amazing in an old fashioned

a few dashes of bitters on a sugar cube in a high ball. Muddle the sugar with the bitters. Add 2 oz of bourbon or rye (rye is my preference) with large ice cube. Stir. Add maraschino cherry and orange peel garnish. Don't forget to twist the peel over the cocktail to add a bit of the zest to the drink.

Mine have evolved over the years and most would probably say it's not really an old fashioned. I go way low on the sweet whether it be simple syrup or one of those mixes like Sirop. I try to get just a tiny bit to come out of the bottle.
I don't really care about the whiskey anymore as I tend to keep mixers and sippers. I am starting to try ryes more now though. I rarely use angostura anymore with the mixers and love cherry bitters.
