LSU last coaching search - Tigers made the right hire

Time for an update on the candidates who the Rant and others suggested for LSU.
Lincoln Riley - 6th place in the Pac 12, despite all the big-name transfers. Finebaum calls him "overrated". Has been mostly disappointing at USC.
Dave Aranda - Baylor is 3-7 and suddenly Aranda has forgotten how to coach defense. Gave up 59 points this week. His seat is getting warm.
Jimbo Fisher - well chronicled here, fired by Aggies this week.
Mel Tucker - got an inexplicably huge contract from Michigan State, was terrible, hit on a sexual harassment advocate, and got fired.
Brian Kelly - won the SEC West in Year One. Has LSU in good position to win 10 games in back-to-back years despite struggling defense, tragic absence of defensive captain, and difficult schedule.
Billy Napier - second consecutive losing season seems likely, including 0-2 against Kelly and LSU. If he loses any more of a strong recruiting class, Gator fans will get even more restless. Seat getting hot.

Kelly is 12-7 at LSU vs power 5 conference teams.

I'm not a huge Kelly fan so I'd just like to compare the Jimbo hire to the Ed O hire.

BK was a damn good get for LSU, the bastards. Would love to see it all implode but Kelly is the real deal. He may or may not be extremely successful at LSU but odds are he will be and odds are better than good that he was the best hire of any school in a while....the bastards LOL.

This is a reasonable take. I don’t think Kelly is a Saban or Smart, but I also don’t think he’s a Jimbo. He will certainly leave LSU in much better shape than he got it, and I do think he’ll have us contending again with consistency.
Broken record, but it’s only year 2 for Kelly, and he really did inherit a dumpster fire from Orgeron. He was probably being very honest that this is a 3-4 year rebuild.
However, he has got to make so serious changes on defense in two weeks. That is a non-negotiable IMO.
