We all know the difference Kevin Steele has made with this team.
Here's a strong indication for you.
In the 2nd half vs Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Tennessee, LSU, we've outscored them
82-13.

2nd half adjustments have been glaring. I’ve noticed them in year’s past, but they stick out even more this season for some reason.

It's not been perfect, but you can see the guys are no longer confused, and they play with intensity. Even if you don't do the exact right thing in a play, if you are getting after it like your hair is on fire good things often still happen. It's night and day from the golding era of passive confusion and never once getting a stop when it mattered. We got more meaningful stops in that one LSU game than we did with 5 years of Golding

I wasn't mad about the hire, but i definitely wasn't thrilled. That said, he's shown why he keeps getting SEC jobs. It's been a huge improvement over Golding.

This is my sentiment exactly. I wasn't thrilled with the hire, I thought it was too short-term. But he has absolutely impressed. I'll never understand what kind of complex calculus Golding was asking of our players... they looked like each play call was a quantum physics problem haha

Apparently Steele’s halftime discussion with the defense contained a lot of expletives.

quote:

Alabama football's 42-28 win over LSU Saturday wasn't by any means its first time rebounding after halftime defensively, but defensive coordinator Kevin Steele's halftime speech clearly stood out more than usual.
At least, it stood out to Terrion Arnold.

"If I told you what coach Steele said in there, they probably wouldn't want me doing media," Arnold said with a laugh.

GOlding's problem was he was probably too smart. He could look at an offense and figure out exactly what play to run. Problem was that he couldn't do it fast enough.

Steele just made it simple. I like what Josh Pate said about it. Last year it was call a play, look at the offense, change the play, offense then shows something, and change the play again, leaving players confused on exactly what they are supposed to be doing. On top of that, the players were trained to watch the offense, then react to what the offense was doing, instead of using their instincts and just letting play makers make plays.

This year it is much more simple. Call the play. Offense changed their play? Doesn't matter, we are running this play.

He made 1 error before half that I saw. On the 40 yard scamper we should have played zone. It was 3rd down and long if I remember correctly. We played man and led to that long scramble. But the man has made a huge change in our defense. Best Saban hire lately

With Steele, I believe it is the “old school, in your face attitude and intensity” that he has brought to the defense that has helped the defense just as much as his calling a defense and making adjustments. They all play with a fire in their gut and we are rotating a lot of guys on the front and creating depth with our LB corps which we almost never saw in the past.
Golding was a smart guy and very well have been a genius defensively. I think in the end though, he was too slow to adjust on the fly or when a team went up tempo.
