Playing with tempo will wear out the defense, can someone explain this to me please

Because I watched us play without tempo, run 3 and outs repeatedly and punt about a dozen times and that seemed to wear the defense out.
So if we run with tempo and actually get a first down.....wouldnt that give the defense more of a rest.
Or if we run with tempo and dont get a first, we reduced the defense resting time by 40 seconds because we did not run slow, is that going to make a difference????
A decent QB is the keystone to fixing this entire mess, suddenly everything will start to fall in place. And its not a true freshman Walker White. I feel confident we have set aside enough NIL money for a transfer and we, and he, already know he is coming.
He will be here in spring so he can get reps with Ryan Williams, Perry Thompson, Cain, Simmons, and we are off to the races.

Freeze has said he doesn’t think the tempo at this point really matters because of what you just said, the offense isn’t able to keep the defense off the field anyways.
Might as well run it. Thorne has shown flashes of being good running tempo.

I think the fear is 3 and out with only taking 1 minute off the clock versus 3 and out taking 2:20 off the clock.
I see what you're saying, speed could give us a first down, but we can't even get on the same sheet of music going slow.

Part of the thinking of running tempo is not allowing substitutions. At normal speed, the defense keeps switching guys in and out. With tempo, you run 11 guys in the ground

Having really good depth on defense would also be helpful to a high octane offense.
I say you play high octane, if that gives you the best chance to win, and then worry about the defense later should you have a lead.

If we run tempo and don't get a first down, the defense receives basically no rest.

You see, it’s different if we go 3-and-out every series and put the defense right back out there versus us running with tempo and putting the defense right back out there.

Thanks Tailback, that was my point. You dont run tempo because you assume you will not get a first down.
Well hell why even make the trip down Tigerwalk, just stay in the dorms and let the defense get plenty of rest

It will make a difference over the entirety of the game, yes. The defense will be out on the field a lot more plays. And that means the opposing offense has that many more plays to score.
Freeze isn't running much tempo right now because he knows we suck on offense and there's no point in trying. His game plan since UGA has been to milk the clock.

Gus ran tempo while it worked. When our offensive line play went to crap .....Gus tried offense by committee. That stopped working as well. Harsin was a failure ......Freeze has problems with the remnants of Gus and Harsin....Until that is ironed out .....we suffer with the lack of talent at every position on the field. We suffer because of inept coaches .....while Colorado seems to prosper ....You can bet that Deon knows he's living on borrowed time. He has to do what Freeze is doing .....take and compete against the best of the conference ......Deon has an edge ....the Black athletes connect with Deon ....

Now that we're through the difficult part of our schedule and don't play any more high powered offenses I think you'll see us take a few more chances. Freeze said in his Monday PC he was going to be more involved this week.

It is very very hard on the defense to go right back on the field after a tempo 3 and out, and you're just asking for the defense to get gassed.

Could we run Tempo? Yes.
Would it help us now? Not really.
Defense: If we had stud starters & good backups, we could run tempo. The Defense would need to get 3 & outs for the majority of the game. You can do that if you have interchangeable bodies. We don't yet.
Our defense is pretty stout but when we loose a member to injury you can tell that the backups are not as good as the starters or even that close in all positions.
Does Freeze want to run tempo? Oh boy he does. But he knows that we don't have the bodies on both sides of the ball to keep us in the games. Thus the ground and pound ball style control the clock is us right now. We don't have a thrower that can see the field/WRs who don't run the right route or QB who makes the right read down to a QB who doesn't even attempt the play that is called. We have a ton of issues to work out. But I believe the bubble gum & bailing wire work that this staff has done so far has been better than I thought we would be.

Might want to get that "." button checked out. Seems to be sticky.
