Heard from a couple of people today that Wrightsell is coming back. Haven’t seen an offical announcement yet, guess we’ll see.

I’d be ecstatic over that. I’d also suggest he wear a padded helmet in practice like Andrew Steele had to do.

The numbers suggest otherwise. We were worse defensively across the board when he was on the floor. He had games where he did well. But there is a bit of an illusion regarding his defense because he was the only guy his size who we could put on wings.

EvanMiya has him as the worst defender from our regular rotation, at least from a per possession basis. And we were roughly 7pts per 100 possessions better when he was on the bench.
somebody saw the UConn fan post on Reddit.

I think people also need to remember the video from last year's offseason where Griffin and Burnett both shite talked Bama and the staff.

I forgot about that. I tried looking for it, because it's been a long time since I've seen it.

So were Sears, Estrada, Nelson, Wrightsell, and Pringle and they all started their careers elsewhere.

I completely agree with the spirit of what you are saying, but the portal hasn't exactly been unkind to us from a competitive standpoint. In terms of the overall health of the sport annual unrestricted free agency for all players is totally unsustainable though

This is a very good, rational take on it. I'm disappointed. But the portal giveth, the portal taketh away. We've benefited from small schools losing their top guys.

It would be hypocritical to become too upset when we lose someone. But I'm the current system, it's eventually going to collapse the sport and it's interest. Especially with the younger generation, who won't remember what it was like before this mess.

If that's true, it could have played a role in Griffen's decision.

I'd love to have them both, but if you make me pick one or the other, it's Wrightsell all day long.

We have a great coach. I want the players here who want to be coached by him.

Griffen has been BAMA's best defender this season by far. He'll go to Kansas or somewhere and be a first round draft pick.

NbaDraft.net mock draft has had him as a first rounder in 2025 (15th) for a little while now while playing for Bama. LINK

It is a bit odd though if the coaches have known about this since mid season (if true). What poisoned the well for Griffen? Just has a Shackleford feel all over again.

Why would they do that? A coach that cares will help you in the future if he has the ability too.

If you think he goes anywhere in the lottery you are out of your mind.

I have no idea where he goes and im certainly not predicting he is going in the first round...I was responding to the part about him leaving and becoming a first rounder. I was just stating that a pretty reputable draft site already has him at 15 in 2025 based on what he was doing here.

Bro did you just reference a .net website to gauge a player’s draft stock?

I did Bro... They have been around for years.. Generally a fairly reliable indicator of future draft movement..

I just don’t understand the reason to hate on Rylan like some in the fanbase are doing. Dude was a key part of our very first Final 4 team and was very communicative with Oats about his desire to leave. Wish him the best.

I hate to see him go. The guy has huge upside if he ever puts it all together. I thought this year he was acclimating to a huge growth spurt and from midseason on he became a really integral part of our offense.

I'm not sure Griff is a lottery pick, and I don't know what he's making in NIL at BAMA, but I do know you don't call your coach the GOAT and then bolt before the comment is in print to another school unless someone has written you a big fat check to do so.

This. I’ll cheer him forever and he’s welcome back for F4 anniversaries anytime!

On the defensive stats when Griff wasn’t in the game, many times you rest your best defender at the same time the other team rests their best offensive player. Of course the other team will be worse at offense when their best player is on the bench. That stat can be very misleading.

I dont see much hate. I see a lot of people confused as to why he is leaving. He wont find a better situation than this.

Most people would consider a raise of 50-100% a “better situation.” I’m not going to fault the guy, but certainly hope he doesn’t end up in the SEC.

No he doesnt. This guy has always been overrated by our fans. Hes a nice college player but he will never do shite in the NBA.
