If he's never gonna even try to fair catch punts, why even put him back there?

Is complete shite. Garbage. A liability.
Special teams are solid if we can just fair catch punts in the right situation.

Kool Aid is a good athlete and pretty dang fast but he must have gonads the size of raisins. Why Saban doesn't replace him is another question surrounding this team.It can't be just because he's an upperclassman ....can it ?

I expect to see a change at PR after the by week based on CNS's reaction late in the Tenn game.

Bc he has pretty reliable hands I am sure. PR is the most dangerous play in football for disasters to happen and the pressure . Think CNS is happy to have someone catch it with not much return but him letting the ball drop yesterday and giving up yards was inexcusable

It has been more than just yesterday.

I’m fine with Koolaid just focusing on the position that will make him millions and letting a guy who doesn’t get enough touches on offense have those PR duties instead.

By repeatedly avoiding catching the ball, KoolAid is telling Saban to take him off PR duties. He just doesn’t want to take the risk.

I think he's got the yips. He's lost his on-the-fly judgement after a spate of fumbles and bobbles due to hyper-aggressive take decisions early in the season.
He can't continue to be out there in this state. He's still playing exceptional at corner. I don't think he's sandbagging. It's the yips and that's it.

the yips. happens in sports.

It doesn't help that our guys do a poor job slowing down their gunners but just letting the ball bounce and waving people off is pretty stupid. CNS could probably put just about anyone out there to just fair catch it.

Dude is snakebit.
I'd like to see Bond, Brooks or Law back there

Against UT Kool Aid had 4 chances to return punts. He returned one for a 6 yard loss and let 3 bounce. They bounced for an extra, 8, 13, and 22 yards.
He's got the yips or something. You can't lose 12 yards on each punt because a guy won't just fair catch it. But that's what happened Saturday.

On punt returns he turns into:

Guess you never know what guys look like in practice, as far as fielding punts.
But we’ve recruited some fast twitch returners out of high school the past few years, haven’t we? Cole Adams & Little come to mind. The thing I don’t like about
our db’s returning punts this year is that this defense really needs a healthy koolaid down the stretch.

He needs to just fair catch. I expected a lot more out of Kool Aid this year. He has regressed. Strange.

In 2023 Alabama ranks
101st in punt return average at 4.78 yards a return
132nd in opponent punting at 47.28 yards per punt given up.
In 2022 Alabama ranked
3rd in punt return average at 17.93 yards a return
39th in opponent punting at 41.00 yards per punt given up.
In other words, this year if a team punted from their own 20, Bama would get the ball at their own 38 (47 yard punt with a 5 yard return). Last year if the other team punted from the 20 Bama would get the ball on the opponents 43 (41 yard punt with a 18 yard return).
Now, that isn't exactly how punt returning works, but it does give you an idea of how big of a change it is to not return punts, you lose a potential return AND add yards to the punts.

He's doing very well at defensive back, which is the only position he should be playing at this point. Barring a generational returner like Javier Arenas, punt returns should be left to a young, talented skill player who otherwise doesn't get to touch the ball. For this year's team a good option would be Kendrick Law, Jam Miller, etc.
