I can't help but like the dude, damn!

Last year’s Texas A&M game ended when a 42-yard field goal attempt from Arkansas kicker Cam Little — are you ready for this? — hit on top of the right upright and, by rule, was no good.

Inches. Literally inches from winning — or losing for the 10th time in the past 11 against the rival Aggies.

If the ball clears the right upright and goes over it — instead of hitting on top of it — the field goal is good and Arkansas has a 2-game winning streak in the series. But the unthinkable happened, and when it does, buddy, someone has to pay.

Arkansas has had 5 more 1-possession losses since, each as confounding as the Texas A&M loss. Two weeks ago, BYU went into Fayetteville and won, in part, because of unthinkable, unlucky special teams mistakes.

One of those mistakes was a shanked, 10-yard punt from Max Fletcher that gave the BYU offense a short field, which turned into a touchdown.

The response on social media, of course, was right down the middle with every other response to every other mistake made by a player in every other game by every other fan base.

“Fletcher was at practice on Monday. He’s lower than low,” Pittman said. “I walk by him, I said, ‘Hey Max, what’s wrong with you?’ He said, ‘Social media.’”

Went all the way to Australia to get a guy who punts it 10 yards.

How much does it cost to send him back to Australia?

I said, ‘Max, they didn’t say I’m fat on there, did they?’” Pittman said. “He says, ‘Yes, sir.’ ‘What about my chest, did they say anything about that?’ He started smiling, he says ‘Yes, sir.’ I said, ‘Was I supposed to get fired on Sunday?’ He says, ‘Yes, sir.’ I said, ‘Well, I’m still here. They got 2 out of 3 right.’”

Pittman gets paid millions to coach football. He gets it, he’s fair game.

Come at him, take your best personal and professional shots. Criticize him, scream from the top of Signal Hill that he should be fired if the Hogs lose 1 more of those damn 1-possession games.

But it’s a different story when the nonsense reaches players, when the anonymous poison infects those who haven’t — over years of dealing with the same crap — developed thick skin.

Pittman didn’t want to deactivate his Twitter account but did, walking away from the unhinged, unhappy and unforgiving before the toxic environment began affecting even him.

“We need to help these kids,” Pittman said. “There’s a lot more going on in their life right now than possibly when I was a kid. And I think a lot of it has to do with (phones).”

A lot of it, like it or not — and fair or not — has to do with winning, too.

There’s more nonsense on the horizon with every potential loss. It doesn’t matter that Texas A&M is one of the most talented teams in the SEC.

All that matters to the social media muscles is Arkansas is playing a team that’s playing its backup quarterback — even though this is Aggies QB Max Johnson’s 4th season in the SEC, and his career TD/INT ratio is 42/7.

And if the Hogs don’t win, guess who’s hearing it?

“I think everybody thinks it’s OK to bash public figures and people,” Pittman said. “That could be musicians, coaches, whatever it may be. I’ll be honest with you, I just got sick of it.”

Stand down, social media muscles.

Sorry coach, but all the fans are sick of losing. Maybe win some games for a change.

Give me $6+ M a year and you can talk about how small my dick is for all I care. Dude should not be worrying about social media at all. Pull your head out of your arse and win some games.

Really toxic for young people. Pittman set a good example by showing them you don't have to indulge in social media.

Agreed, and laughed it off with the kid... Using himself as a laughing stock to do so.

I admire him for it honestly. Social Media is a contagious disease for some folks. Getting away from the negativity doesn't impact one way or another future results.

He doesn't care. He got his raise and it has been a decline from that point on.

And now so do the players. The dynamics have changed. You aren't going to get fans to keep their mouths shut when a player drastically underperforms while eating up limited NIL funding. This was always going to be part of the equation of getting players paid.

Sam is complaining so much because of how hateful people can be then he should consider taking my mother's position as a registered nurse.

She takes 60-80 calls from rude and hateful patients, she has to take that abuse five days a week and gets paid nothing for it.

I don't feel sorry for a multimillionaire that coaches a damned football game. Many people in this world have worked so hard and get paid so much less, yet get no respect and praise for the work they do each day of the week.

We all are. But I think the point is that bitching on social media doesn’t change any of that. It’s not like he’s intentionally losing games and because someone on Twitter tells him to stop sucking he’s going to suddenly be like “good point, I’ll try that”

Never understood the mindset of you’re not allowed to have feelings if you’re wealthy. I guarantee the toxicity of social media would beat you down too no matter how much you make.

Bitching about fans bitching doesn't help.

Fans will bitch and that is what fans will do.

Block out the noise, focus on coaching your team and stop crying about it because it will make your job that much harder.

I think it is a greater philosophy on society in general. We have mostly become a holes, especially behind keyboards. Regardless of $$$, or perception... Fine, fire him.. but don't be such pricks about it. Just do it and move on without causing needless pain in the process. How Hy handled Mike Anderson is the way, if it has to happen.

If he can recruit a top 15 class to Arkansas without social media then go for it.

KJ is estimated to make almost 300k this year.....

To be fair though Max fletcher may not be making anything hardly...

People and especially athletes with aspirations needs to learn how to manage this kind of thing though. it's not going to get better....

It just seems weird to me that a coach wouldn't need to disable his account and could just hand it off to assistant/ social media manager to manage who lets him know when he needs to respond to a DM or something....

Like another poster said if he can recruit a top 15 type class without social media good for him and lets go woo pig. My concern though is in this being a brand limitation and thus a recruiting limitation.

As a coach you either do the following:

1. Have social media and use it like Kiffin. You think everyone is nice to Kiffin on social media? No, he simply ignores the vitriol (or returns fire) and focuses on using the platform to promote the program.

2. Don't have social media like Saban. This is fine and dandy, too.

You DO NOT delete your social media mid-season. At worst, you hand it off to some AD intern. Deleting mid-season is a sign of thin-skinned weakness.
