Freeze, Montgomery, Kent Austin, Jesse Stone all working on the QBs. Even Jake Thornton offers playcalling suggestions, and Cadillac is Associate Head Coach. Seems like we’re trying too much to create a hybrid type of offense and we’re making it more difficult on the players than it should be. There should be rank and structure in the offensive staff, everyone should know their role. Looking at the offense, it doesn’t seem cohesive, consistent or well organized. It’s scatterbrained, and you have to be able to establish some sort of identity on offense.

I think that the more complicated an offense is, the more likely that players are going to be confused. I think that was one of the problems last year. Too many players didn't seem to know the overall offensive scheme and their own role in it.

I think the team personnel wise is actually a pretty significant upgrade from last year. But these guys have had a few months to get to know each other and establish relationships. That’s why organization, structure, and knowing your precise role is so important. It doesn’t seem like there is sufficient leadership and organization on the offense.

This is a fair point. This is Freeze's first year not calling the plays and I think it is having an impact. He takes over for a drive here or a play there, but not enough to make the offense cohesive. I believe we would be better off letting Freeze call the offensive plays. Its what he is known for and what he excels at. Whatever we have now is not working

We haven’t established what we can do well. I have never been a fan of “holding back” to save for bigger games. Run your offense every game. Use your players. Development is needed. You can’t have that rotating linemen, QBs, WRs, RBs. We have no idea what players can do. Hooks what can he really do? Maybe win a jump ball some of the time let’s give him a 50/50 chance on a legit jump ball. Ok that’s pretty decent. But for a big WR he sucks at blocking. Fair weather seems to have good hands but is terrible blocking everywhere. So is he really better than sticking another big WR in? I don’t know. Shorter appears lazy. Have no clue what he can do. Omari isn’t an outside guy but we have to put him out there. Limited outside ability. He’s just SEC fast he ain’t blazing fast. Var and Fair are good. Var has been banged up. No back gets to get lathered up. Damari fumbles to much. OL is barely ok in pass pro against P5 DL. The run blocking is ok if 6 yards a carry is good. 6 yards is good but 6 yards are our chunk rushes. They would make a solid G5 OL which sadly is probably an improvement from last year but still weak where games are won and lost. QBs are just not getting the offense for whatever reason. Thorne doesn’t have a rocket arm and is spooked by the rush. Leave his arse in and take his lumps. What has pulling him out done. Nothing. Robby has had some success but hasn’t led a scoring drive against a P5 opponent yet that I can remember.

So get your starting 11 out there. Let them run 60 plays a game together without swapping or moving people all around. Yes I understand WRs will need some rotation but limit it as much as possible until you start moving the ball. Next 2 games whether win or lose we need to know what we have.

Maybe, but he really has no choice. Lots of coaches have given up play calling in the modern era because it takes way too much time away from HC duties. It's not like you just roll out there and randomly call plays on gameday. You have to watch countless hours of film every week to make the gameplan and create the play-sheet.

Head coaches in 2023 don't want to spend all their time doing that now that recruiting is a 24/7 365 thing. And coaches nowadays have more outside obligations than ever before.

So just make Kent Austin the OC. That’s the guy Hugh knows and trusts. Based on games and press conferences, I’m not sure there is a lot of confidence in Montgomery.

Stay the course with Montgomery as OC, changing too much would be starting over. However, change our game plans, but stay with the same base plays. We are in a catch 22, run more they stack the box more and force us to pass. Throw more on first down, use some easier throws, etc.

Once a QB is afraid of the rush, it is a difficult thing to change. Thorne graded much higher than Robby, but is focused on the pass rush. Looks great against weaker teams.

Everyone predicted this season to be a 7-5 maybe 8-4 season and it looks like we're on track for that. Can't expect our coaching staff to come in with only a few practices and completely do a 180 on the team. This year our entire coaching staff gets a pass provided they don't crap the bed against clearly inferior opponents. Next year we'll all be able to grade the offense/defense better.

People seem to forget Thorne was Freeze's last option. This offense would've looked completely different with someone like Grayson McCall as QB. Gotta give the staff some time to turn it around. I honestly believe we're trending in the right direction especially on the recruiting front.

You think we will win 4-5 more games? Did you see the game Saturday? We will be lucky to win 5 total at this point.

I honestly don't know if that would work. He froze like a deer in headlights. He has plenty of qb experience so I am not sure what to make of it. Getting sacked 20 times by GA might break him permanently.

I guess it depends on if the staff see him starting next year. If not, we may have to take the lumps with one of our other not great options.

I agree that expectations were low- that said, I don’t see 7 wins. I see 4 or 5. We are not close to being competitive on offense. That’s not being negative or anything- just reality.

Hard to say just yet. All I do know is that Thorne isn't seeing wide open people. He doesn't know his progressions and check downs, and doesn't take what the defense is giving. He wasn't able to read a blitz and know where to go to get rid of the ball. There were so many plays he had a quick dump off pass wide open but just stared downfield and then laid down. Thorne just doesn't have it. The problem though, is Robby is just inaccurate, not that Thorne was much more accurate Saturday.

I don't trust that Holden has a grasp on reading defenses to be of much use right now. All of his plays so far this season have been almost the exact same, just throwing a right sideline throw, he's rarely been asked to do anything else. Don't know if that is on purpose or its all he is comfortable doing right now.

We need to become a run first team. Run until they can stop it and attempt to throw just enough to keep the defense honest.
