Cardale Jones said Recruits are now asking for 5-15K plus, just to visit a school.

He said mostly it is agents and handlers the families have hired and are now involved in the recruiting process. He also added once families are on campus they are learning the family had no idea the agent or handler even asked for the fee.

fricking crazy

He said this on Dusty and Danny sirius morning show.

He’s just parroting what the Oh St AD said earlier this week… I don’t doubt some have asked for a fee to visit, but this feels like an agenda driven story. Oh St (and all big schools for that matter) have a vested interest in tighter regulations around NIL.

No, he went into more detail and is active in the NIL and recruiting side of things with OSU. It may have been the same messaging, but he was talking with first hand knowledge.

I don't feel sorry for them. OSU also proudly announced they are paying Day 10MM a year this week. This sport is in a weird spot where we celebrate over paying for one side and claim some type of moral issue with paying the other.

Sucks. But it was bound to happen. Lots of money in NIL and others are wanting a piece of that pie.

This doesn’t have anything to do with feeling sorry for a school in my opinion. This will be happening at every big school including ours if it isn’t already.

This is money just for a visit with no guarantee of anything except a visit.

Yup… personally I don’t get the pearl clutching over this visit thing. To your point… the hypocrisy of a program paying its staff $20 million a year while also bitching bc some kids want $5k to visit is pretty rich.

Obviously if ‘handlers’ are getting paid and the money doesn’t make it to the athlete, that’s a problem.

Can they just form a minor league pro system and let college athletics go back to students and actual amateurs? Yes, the product won't be as good but this shite is ridiculous

Jones isn’t wrong they are paying some players to visit. Not sure how’s that’s handled and I expect some loop holes to be closed

A bit dramatic so early in the morning. It was talked about on radio and so I brought it up. If you can't see the problem of where college football is heading that's your issue not mine. I always thought players should have received more in compensation. What we have now is not sustainable in my opinion. I love college football and hope I'm wrong. Oh, and it's not something I pine over daily.

As for me I see NIL as the beginning of the end to College football based on where it's at right now. I think coaches making what they do was/is also crazy so your argument is lost on me.

It's happening but why clutch pearls over it. Coaches and kids are making money, why not handlers and agents?

I don’t even know how it is a loophole. Asking for 5k to visit isn’t even related to NIL at all. If a school is paying that then it’s no different than it was pre NIL.

The visit payment is still being worked through the NIL collectives. Schools cannot pay kids directly any compensation.

The money isn’t there for it. If they put an amateur team in Birmingham they wouldn’t have near the fan support and viewership like Auburn or Alabama.

They couldn’t pay enough to get good coaches or players.

Maybe the the doomsday folks.

Change isn’t easy and comes with issues. This will be solved because there’s too much at stake for it not to be solved.

College football will still be played 30 years from now. It may look different than it did today just like it looks different today than the 1990’s.

Much easier to just sit back, relax, and enjoy the product on the field. Let someone else worry about what we can’t control.

I don't think it's pearl clutching to say that it's insane, unsustainable, and will continue to lead to a lesser product. I'm not saying it's morally wrong for a recruit to charge a fee to visit given all the money involved in the sport, but it is stupid.

A lot bigger things in this world than college football have eventually failed.

Agree with this.. but that's not a super high bar.

I say good. If I was in a kids position I would do the same honestly. Let's say I'm a 4 star edge from Birmingham or something, and my NIL is 50-100k, I'm making as much as I can while I can. Even the 4stars don't make it to the league if you look at the numbers. This may be the biggest paycheck I make so I better make it count.
