I have the feeling this weekend will let us know what we and ND have with our new OCs

If Rees can't scheme up a game plan that's friendly to Milroe's skills Saban may have made another dud coordinator hire. It's early but ND fans are happy with their new OC and they feel he's schematically better than Rees.

It probably helps just a tiny bit that ND looks competent along the OL, has an absolute stud RB, and a top 5 QB in the country

maybe just a little

Rees hasn't been great obviously, but our OL has been absolute arse, RBs have been meh, and QB play is obviously what we've seen

Hard to make chicken soup out of chicken shite

I’m not a fan of BoB but we would all remember him a lot differently if he hadn’t inherited garbage OLs.

In fact he might’ve won back to back championships and be revered like Sark.

One more thing about BOB is that once Jamo and Metchie got hurt and graduated our WR coach hadn't prepared adequate replacements.

All that might be true but the player talent at Bama is so great Rees won't get a pass if he can't get this offense to at least a serviceable level.

FIFY. In all seriousness BoB brought Marrone in with him. The o-line play was his own fault.

Like I said it's early. We'll see what ND is once they play Ohio State. Their toughest game so far I think is NC State. I don't think that's a great litmus test for them.

They should be happy. Gerard (their new OC) is doing more in four games than Rees did in three seasons. Hell, Rees' offenses only managed to hit 40+ points eight times in four years. Gerard' offense has hit 40+ points in every game this season.

But our fans will continue to blame Rees' offensive shortcomings on talent for the next four years as they did with Golding and Shula... Because you know, we've really struggled to recruit talent the past few years while teams like Notre Dame, Texas and USF have really one upped us in recruiting...

Crazy how WKU and some HBCU is more "talented" than us offensively...

Then you'll have to explain why Rees' offenses couldn't seem to produce similar numbers against similarly weak competition at ND. Not disagreeing that the caliber of their competition is shitty but it was also shitty under Rees. Meanwhile, Rees was embarrassed against South Florida. Absolutely no excuses for that train wreck given the fact that our cheerleaders could suit up and hang 50 on them.

He only hit 50+ points twice in three seasons and 40+ only eight times in three seasons. Let's not forget even Pete Golding held his offense to one touchdown for 58 minutes.

I think Parker is doing a great job at ND so far, but Hartman is also the best QB ND has had in several years.

I imagine Bama would be putting up 40+ a game with Hartman at QB too.

Can we at least get adequate oline play before we make a judgement on Rees?

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I'm not judging Rees yet, and I think he has a chance to successful, but he needs to adjust his playcalling to his personnel.

For example, if the OL is getting whipped and your QB is struggling making reads, you gotta run jet sweeps, WR screens, RPO slants, read options, etc.

Hartman is a four year starter at this point? And his last two seasons have been great

He’s very polished at this point for the college level

All true. And, it's true that Rees should be able to adjust his style to suit his personnel especially until the OL comes along. And, this personnel is one of the most talented and deepest in the sport.

IMO, dumb metric.

They went against:

Navy
FCS TN State
A somewhat weak NC State
and Central Michigan

Ohio State will prove if they have a good offense or not. Let's pump the brakes here before we start praising untested OCs.

Really curious why we didn’t go after him in the portal. After the A&M game last year, we knew that QB would be our biggest question mark.

It's not unreasonable to expect Rees to show some promise in this Ole Miss game. Austin Armstrong who was supposed to be our ILB coach is already showing promise as Florida's DC. Ole Miss should be improved defensively but they won't be the best defense we play this season. If there's no improvement out of the offense in this game it's an indictment of Rees and the entire offensive coaching staff.

I had some people say this week on this board we went after Hartmann. This was the first time I heard of that. I even heard one of the guys who does an Ole Miss football radio and YouTube show say he believes Bama didn't get a better QB out of the portal than Buchner because of a lack of money. Yes, Ole Miss backup QB Spencer Sanders would start at Bama
But I don't believe that a lack of money explains why we didn't get a better QB out of the portal. I think Saban was betting on either Milroe or Simpson having improved enough to be a competent starting QB.
