Comparing to recent year's first losses, what was/is your confidence in Bama winning out?

Years past, I had some confidence the team could recover and run the table.
Definitely 2011 and 2012, and probably 2015, and maybe some others.

But, this season, I have by far my least confidence the team can turn it around and run the table.
For one, this is a very early in the season loss.
More importantly, I just don't think this team has the full commitment to excellence.
Hopefully, I'm wrong and yall can bookmark this post and rub it in my face as we head to a CFP game in December.

I think if we had to lose one this season I'm glad it happened early a la 2014 and 2015. Figure out our issues before we get into meat of the schedule and it's too late to adjust.

That falls on Saban.

He's gotten soft and it has filtered down throughout the program.

I think that winning the west is absolutely possible as there are no teams that really stand out.

But who knows really, there is just a big question mark still at QB, and with some of the same lingering discipline issues. Its hard to figure those things out during the season, but it is possible. Mistake free, consistent, efficient football will win you a lot of games, but when you rack up 10 penalties a game, blow assignments, turn the ball over, etc, any team with a pulse is a serious threat. The last two years have show that. Right now its difficult to think that that is all of a sudden going to change.

Its just hard to really predict anything positive right now, but its possible that that could change.

Bama hasn't had a loss this early since the early Shula days. Bama hasn't lost at home by double digits since the early Shula days.

This does not compare.

Extremely low. If Milroe is going to be the guy, there is no way he doesn't have major growing pains in games going forward. The one thing that makes me slightly hopeful is that the rest of the SEC, and particularly the West, has been dog shite.

I don't think he has. I think he's had to change the way he approaches players because kids have changed. I coach teenagers and they don't respond to certain types of coaching well anymore. Maybe 1 in 10 players now would positively respond to coaching at Bama the way it was done 10 years ago. Now if you get on a kid for laziness or bad attitude or whatever and chew him up one side and down the other the top three reactions are he's gonna pout, he's gonna roll his eyes, or he's gonna quit and go home.

0% with this team.

The difference with past early season losses is that they were usually pretty flukey. You had the 5 turnover, deflected long touchdown against Ole Miss in 2015. This one felt more like 2010 South Carolina.

-15% with Milroe
25% with new QB
55% if new QB knows how to throw a pass to the correct jersey
75% if new QB plays like Jake Coker

Back then the RPO game was just showing up in college football and it resulted in some upsets. Those teams struggled a bit with that and they had some problem areas to shore up because it was early in the season. those losses were also close losses.

2023 - lost by multiple scores at home to a non SEC team.
With the exception of kicking this team does nothing well. That's not something to shore up, that's total program collapse. There is nothing what so ever to build around.

Coaches around the SEC are licking their chops to pin the "I beat Saban" patch on their vest.

What will Kiffin do if he's up 17 in the 4th? Will he call off the dogs? Will Heupel? Kelly?

0% chance we win out. We are losing 1-2 more. It’s not just a QB issue. This team has several issues. WRs were actually really good Saturday night. Made some damn fine plays. And I love our TEs.

I have zero confidence that they can win out. Not even an ounce of confidence. I guess I can’t say it’s impossible, and I certainly hope that they prove me wrong, but I expect 2-3 more losses.

Saturday wasn't great, but come on, you are really giving absolutely no chance to win the rest of our games?

I have more confidence than I probably should, for a bunch of reasons:

1. As others have mentioned, the SEC is down this year, especially the West.
2. Texas has the most talented offense and playcaller we'll see all year (yes, Kiffin is a great playcaller, but Texas has far more talent).
3. Prior to imploding in the 4th Q, our defense had only given up 13 points (and zero in the 3rd quarter) to the aforementioned most talented offense and playcaller.
4. Penalties and turnovers, which should be relatively easy to control/fix, cost us big in this game.
5. Unlike last year, our WRs are able to get separation from DBs.
6. Most importantly, I think the team will continue to get better. We have a lot of new starters on both sides of the ball that are gaining valuable experience (including a bunch of true Freshmen).

I could go on, but that's the gist. Yeah, I think we likely need to make a change at QB and RG, and do something to generate more of a pass rush, but I really don't think it's out of the realm of possibility that we win out based on some of the points above.

If we don't change, there's a good chance we don't even make it out of September without another loss. OL needs work, but we basically don't have an offense at all with Milroe. I think defense is solid enough to win us some close ones, but that only works with a functional offense.

I still believe we'll win the West, but we will lose another one along the way, but that was my expectation for the year anyway.

aTm has equal talent to us
Ole Miss executes their scheme
Tennessee executes their scheme
Auburn plays us in JHS
We travel to Kentucky
Arkansas had us on the ropes a year ago
MSU has a veteran team and gets us at home.

We may very well be favored in each of these matchups when the time comes, but winning them all seems pretty far fetched.

I think 8-4 is more likely than 11-1 to be frank

We have major issues on this team. Yes 0% chance we win out. 1-2 more losses incoming. Might as well prepare yourself. QB isn’t the only issue although it is a major issue.
