Morning after thoughts

QB-I don’t know that anymore needs to be said. He can’t read a defense. I know some suggested more RPO but that requires a really quick read at the snap. Not sure he can process it. He’s got a strong arm and he’ll make just enough plays to keep from being benched. But he’s not a championship QB, and I thought that was the goal here. He seems like a good kid but Buchner or Simpson need to get an extended look against USF
OL-Terrible and all we heard all August was how good they were going to be. And how many balls were snapped in the dirt or at Milroe’s feet? Embarrassing
RB’s- Disappointing. But I guess when the line can’t block and defense doesn’t have to worry about the QB beating them throwing the ball, that’s what the running game looks like.
WR’S-Looked good. Niblack as well. They were one of the bright spots of the night.
Defense-Looked better for about 2 and half quarters. Hoping they just ran out of gas. But bottom line we didn’t stop them once in the 4th quarter. And some of the same problems as last year: can’t get pressure on QB, panic/PI when ball in the air, can’t get a stop after a score. Again, maybe they were just gassed.
Which brings me to the strength and conditioning. What changed? We used to be the ones to make the other team quit.
Overall, disappointing but maybe some things are fixable. But there’s no doubt this program is fallen. Can this team win 9 even 10 games? Yes especially with how bad the SEC has looked. But that’s not the standard. The standard used to be a national championship.

I pointed out the poor center play last week and got downvoted and flamed for it. The OL is big and slow. Texas’s edge rushers whipped our tackles all night long. The middle of the line just usually collapsed, especially around the RG position but that’s nothing new, it’s been happening for 4 years. I don’t understand why, after seeing a guy make costly mistakes repeatedly, you keep trotting him back out there over and over. And this goes for Milroe, Dalcourt, McLaughlin, and anyone else in that category, chew their arse out, sit their arse down and next man up. This is Alabama, we’re supposed to have 5 star talent stockpiled at every position. Put them on the field and see if they can do the job. We already know the starter can’t do it. What’s the harm in seeing if someone else wants to take the job? If not, you can always cycle back to the inept starter. But at least you know they are the best you have. Standing by the starter because he’s been there the longest is stupid bullshite.

The only season where they haven't looked poorly conditioned since losing Cochran was 2020, a condensed season with multiple bye weeks.
ETA: And a season where much of the offseason conditioning had to be done informally, with the players exercising alone or in small groups.

I’ll be honest. I think we are done. I’m not being doom and gloom but there’s no fix to our many problems.

The Alabama football program we enjoyed from 2008-2020 is history. Our coach and the current program are just a shadow of what they once were.

Fix it and get it right? How? What have they done all spring summer and fall. If it isn’t fixed now, it’s not getting fixed in the season. We have what we have now.

I’m sick and tired of hearing about 350# OL that can’t get a push in the run game and can’t pass protect in the passing game.

Really can’t disagree with what you and the others are saying this morning. Arnold’s first DPI was smart I thought. The second one was questionable since it appeared he had safety help over the top.
I’m afraid the ride we became used to in that glorious 08-20 run is done. Never ever expected to lose once the 2008 team beat Georgia.
Now I don’t see getting by unscathed against Ole Miss, and LSU - UTk back to back. Not to mention UGa if the west is mediocre this year.
Next year we will just have to cope with our second round CFP exit.
But expecting to win them all and being shocked when we lose one days are over.

Big, fat, slow offensive linemen aren’t the norm for a reason. That can’t be fixed.
The problem I see is that a lot of the issues can’t be fixed QB, O Line, D Line.
Bama looked promising last week. I actually thought the team had a chance to be good. No drops, good QB play, no turnovers, only 2 penalties. The only thing that held up this week was no drops.
Bama has committed 26 penalties in 2 games against Texas.

Agreed. As players, coaches I hope their mindset is still total domination/championships, but as a fan I’m resetting my mindset to “we are a pretty good top 25 type team and hope for something better than .500 against the other top 25 type teams.”
Reasonably expecting to win every game for so long was a cool but stressful way to live as a fan. Big wins just felt more like relief we didn’t lose. Done with that mindset. We are just another decent team now and I’m going to have to start appreciating wins and not just championship or bust. Or football season is not going to be much fun I’m afraid.

4 bad throws turned this game. The two picks of course accounted for the margin of victory points. The two wheel routes that he missed may have been worse. In the first half , he lastered one to Roydell’s back shoulder on a third down. Williams made the catch wide open, but the bad throw carried him out. Kicked a FG and missed out on 4 pts. The second to Jase running wide open down the sideline was a sure TD if Milroe puts even a little air under it. Punted on the next play.

We can all name a long list of players at every position over the last 15 years that would keep every offensive starter on this team off the field.
Let's start at center: Antoine Caldwell, William Vlachos, Barrett Jones, Ryan Kelly, Ross Pierschbacher, Bradley Bozeman, Landon Dickerson. Which one of those guys would our current center play in front of?
See what I mean? And you can create a similar list at every position.
Is it a failure to adequately evaluate prospects, a failure to convince the best talent to come to Bama, a failure to develop them when they get here? Probably a combination of the three.
Throw in the lack of level of conditioning we became used to during the Cochran era, and for insult to injury the increased number of penalties due to a lack of discipline.
There's no quick fix to any of these issues. Yeah, I think that at some point you have to give the other QBs a look. But without better production from the OL and RBs, we all know it won't matter.

We need to give Buchner a shot. The rest of the stuff can be worked on but the QB position cannot stay the same if want to win and go to the SECCG.

Yeah because teams are going to do what Texas did knowing that Milroe was exposed.
