Lance Leipold coaching circles around Bert and Illini.
KU up 28-7 at half against Illinois. Absolute beyond terrible situational football at end of half.

Bert didn't need to have a fourth quarter melt.

Bert's doing the smart play. Can't blow a lead in the 4th quarter if you go down 3 TDs at the half.

This is reminiscent of the Liberty Bowl (ironically so for Kansas).
Get up huge in the 1st half and then piss away an enormous lead in the 2nd half.

I asked multiple people, would it have been more Bert to pull out the game and win it down 31-7 or more Kansas to blow the lead.

Bert is an average football at the FBS level. In the B10 he'll take you to a bowl game most years at Illinois and at a good school like Wisconsin he might even sneak into a conference championship if Michigan and Ohio State are down.
Against a good coach he's over matched though. Unless he gets bailed out by his players he will find a way to lose those games.
You don't hire Bert to win conference championships. You hire Bert, particularly at Illinois, to be thunderously average and get you to a low tier bowl game. For Illinois football that is fantastic.

The game definitely passed him by, to the extent he was ever 'up' on it.
I remember having an "oh shite" moment in 2014-ish when I realized everyone in the SEC had moved to a variation of the spread (including Bama) and we were still trying to play I formation bullyball.
Bert was building us like mid-2000s Big Ten team full of slow mashers, while even programs like Bama and Oklahoma were shifting towards speed and RPO mixes.
He hasn't had a top 25 finish since 2011.

He's a young dinosaur. Now, that having been said, in B10 he'll probably win 6-7 games a year. have a bad losing year, have a good year where he wins 8-9 games. That isn't a glowing endorsement of Bert's coaching skills though.
For Arkansas, if we are coming off a long dry spell, that would probably be okay. For the first few years. Then discontent would build and we would fire him. For Illinois he's the Great Value Bear Bryant.

His teams play slow and lazy just like his lifestyle

Except I'm pretty sure they are paying him more than we did

Bert should be nowhere near a power 5 job.
But he keeps being rewarded for failure.

Wtf are you talking about?
He went 11-1 or something at Baylor had them in a new years six. Then he went pro and this is his second game back in college.
