Is the exo-helmet padding a new NCAA rule for practice?

Or is that Freeze’s decision. Always wondered why that wasn’t mandatory these days

I’ve coached youth and middle school for several years in a place it was mandatory to wear.
My theory is the helmet padding does nothing to prevent the wearer from getting injured. But it helps prevent the wearer from injuring others. So it is definitely a positive as long as everyone wears one.

Not mandatory and is personal choice by players. Most of them realize the benefits though and I think it is pretty highly encouraged by coaches around the country these days. Anything to help keep practice physical but help limit some injuries around that.

Maybe we need to rethink helmets if they’re wearing padding around a helmet that already has padding
