According to MHver3
@MHver3
“ SEC has told ESPN they would go to a 9 game conference schedule if they can get 2 more schools added at a full share. This would add a TON of SEC inventory.”

but ESPN told the SEC they wouldn't pay for a 9 game schedule. Why would ESPN rework the contract? Not like the SEC can go to another broadcast.

That would be pretty funny if we received additional money for two more schools, when we didn't receive a nickel for texas and oklahoma.

So basically since inking the deal with ESPN we would add 4 of the biggest brands in college football, add a 9th conference game, and ESPN still would not pay us a dime more per team. Great deal you made there Sankey.

I'm not sure ESPN would approve the deal. If FSU and Clemson leave the ACC the conference will collapse.

I'm not for expansion but this is incorrect. The media rights deal with ESPN included Texas and Oklahoma. The start of that contract begins in 2024. What ESPN did not pay for was 9 conference games. The SEC went back to them and ESPN didn't want to pay for it, so we stayed at 8 (Good move for the SEC as it is a bargaining chip). ESPN likely thought that we would go to 9 games anyway so why pay for it?

If we actually expand which we shouldn't then just take everything worth a damn. Take UNC UVA Clemson and FSU. Go to 20 teams and then close the gate on expansion forever and lose the key.

Bingo.
If this happens you KNOW ESPN and frankly CBS have much larger plans.

the mega conferences will all eventually have to play 12 and the body bag games will go away and those teams will lose their payday games which funds majority of their budgets

They will be payed for an exhibition, lost in the playoffs/conference expansion is a lot of coaches not being able to scrimmage other opponents. Exhibition against small schools will become the new spring games

It's North Carolina and Virgina.

Well, the PAC 12 did collapse. Why would you say about ACC? It is basically over for regional football games to be played nowadays.

MHver3 is full of shite.
He was all over WVU going to the SEC saying it was a done deal.
He's a desktop tech monkey who claimed he had a big time WVU booster in his office.

Because ESPN has the contract on the ACC too.

ACC reaching out to Cal and Stanford is about survival. Pure and simple - there is certainly no common sense in the move.

So absolutely nothing for Oklahoma and Texas and over 100 million to add Clemson and FSU?
Seems good to me

Would truly be the only conference with teams in the same area of the country and no other conference would even come close as a power conference except the big ten and that's only if they added ND.

Why would ESPN blow up an entire conference they sponsor?
