Pretty sure Skenes can throw at least 100 pitches tomorrow night and shutout Florida

He has a much younger arm, it's Jell-o at this point.

Even more impressive is Ryan made his next start on 3 days rest and pitched for 6 scoreless innings in a 3-0 win against the Yankees. LINK

And to think I have been looking for William. And you have been here the whole time.

Why did you anchor that Alabama/Wake game thread where you showed your arse? What a strange, delicate creature.

I remember that game ... and it wasn't like Nolan was a young man at the time either. He was like my Dad, a freak of nature.

But LSU would be wise to bring Skenes in if needed, in relief.

Ryan avg'd 135 pitchers per game on three days rest (4 man rotation) for a decade+.

Nolan Ryan

At age 46, after 27 years in the bigs, he was also not backing down from a 26 year old Robin Ventura who didn't like being hit with a ball.

Nolan was a legend.

I think the issue is how these kids arms are treated prior to college. Ryan most likely didnt have baseball going year round. Does it make for better players with more movement, yes... It also means these kids arms are abused before they are developed properly.

I think you may be completely backwards here.

I grew up in the 70s and we played sports anyday there wasn't a thunderstorm. Hot, cold, wind, rain - it did not matter. Only lightning would stop us from playing.

So while Nolan obviously did not play organized baseball year round, he probably threw more than kids today by many factors - and not just baseballs.

Same goes for the kids on Japan, Korea and South America. They throw and throw and throw all year round and they don't have arm problems at nearly the same rate as US kids do.

Hell, we throw rocks at the power lines waiting on the school bus, because it made a cool sound when you hit them. We were always throwing something.

I think the issue with arm injuries with todays kids in the US is a combination of teaching high stress pitches too early and teaching them to throw them with max effort combined with a pitch count mentality on everything. I have a feeling if kids today would throw a ton more less effort/less stress (ie less pitching throws) throws we would see fewer injuries in the long run when they were throwing with max effort.
