What a fricking narcisist! Little Nicky wants his voice to be heard loud and clear each and every week or two. Now he's pointing out the flaw of the CFB playoff selections...

You’re talking about it. Nick still has it.

The games are played on the field, not on betting sheets.
Bama was favored over LSU and Tennessee too. And lost them both.

Alabama was -13.5 against LSU…

Saban spoke about the Tide being left out of last year's playoff and revealed that he's not sold the current system actually selects the four best teams.
"So, all we do is take the teams that win the most games at the end of the year, put them in the playoffs," Saban said. "But do you really get the best teams?
"When they told me that we would be favored against three out of the four teams that got in the playoff, I’m like, why aren’t we in the playoffs?”
Alabama lost just two games last season, but both came in heartbreaking fashion. The Tide fell to the Tennessee Volunteers on a last-second field goal and later in the year, lost to LSU by one point in overtime.
"Does that mean they have a better team [than us],” Saban asked, likely referring to Ohio State, TCU and/or Michigan - the three teams ranked ahead of Alabama in the final CFP rankings last season.
"Or does it mean that those people don’t know what they’re talking about? I really don’t know that. But I’m not being critical of anybody. But if you’re going to have parity, you have to have a better way of figuring out who has the best teams."
Look, Alabama didn't deserve to be in the CFP last season because they didn't get it done. They blew it on the field when they still controlled their own destiny.
But what he's inferring is correct. There is not one person who can claim (with a straight face) that TCU was a better team than Alabama, or probably even multiple other teams in this conference.
His actual talking point here is that we need to stop trying to give every other conference a participation trophy in this thing.
If multiple SEC teams "should" get in, they should get in.

Frankly this off-season has not been a very good look for him with all the complaining. The idea that Alabama would be favored meaning we should be in is absurd considering we lost 2 games where we were favorites by 1-2 scores.
Wish he'd just talk about his team or not at all and stop trying to be the CFB Commissioner on every issue.

Auburn was better than Alabama in 2017 and they won a NC without winning their division.
Didn't hear him complaining then.

This is one of my biggest annoyances when dealing with people talkign about CFB. THE PLAYOFF HAS NEVER BEEN ABOUT THE "BEST" TEAMS. Never!!! It's been about most deserving/best resumes. "best" is subjective and leads to the dreaded eye test. If it was only about "best" teams then bama and ohio state might as well be given a free pass into teh playoffs after about 5 or 6 games once it's obvious that they're really good. The whole point is that you play your way in or out. It's worked out flawlessly so far.

becase you lost 2 games and didn't even win your division ya goober.

nope, it doens't. Bama would have throttled TCU and michigan both. So what? Thsoe teams did enough during the season to earn their way in. Bama didn't.

you don't know what you're talking about, correct.

Just my opinion, but I feel like he's been given some talking points from the conference to support this, rally for that, try to implement so-and-so — and quite honestly I don't like it either.
I know he's got the pull right now, but I wish they'd just stop having him work all the political angles.

What he's getting at is that because bama is "better" than TCU that bama should've been in the playoffs instead of TCU. Which is absolutely not correct.

I mostly agree with this, but it's only getting worse since we're going to 12 and I'm sure eventaully at some point 16+ team playoffs. Everyone with a pulse is getting in.

I just don't agree, as it stands with a 4 team playoff. What is the point of having a reulgar season if multple lsoses and winning nothing of consequence at all doesn't have any penalties as a result? IF you can lose 2 games, not win your division, and still make the playoffs...what's the point of even trying in the regular season?

This has been the same argument that has gone on for decades now. It's the most deserving teams vs the best teams. Some people vote on who is the most deserving, while others vote on who they believe is the best. The most deserving team isn't always the best team. Was TCU the second best team in the country last year? I don't believe so, but did they do everything required of them to deserve to be in the championship game? Yes. Even with the expanded playoff you will have people arguing over the at large bids. Unless you go to an NFL model where post season access is determined strictly by record (which I'm not in favor of) you are going to have these debates.

Betting lines shouldn't determine playoff spots, sorry. What happens on the field should be what gets you in. Betting lines should be just that, for betting. And maybe it can be factored into strength of schedule, but even that can be misleading because injuries happen, causing teams to be weaker and stronger at different points of the season. But it shouldn't be criteria for earning playoff spots and ignore what happens on the field. Otherwise why are we even playing?
Besides the point, Bama wasn't some dominant team last year. If a team with a different name and jersey color posted the exact same results as Bama they wouldn't be hypothetically favored over as many teams as Bama supposedly would have, a large part of that is from name brand alone. TCU played better in Austin against Texas than Bama did. They were a play away from losing to A&M and Ole Miss even gave them some trouble. It's not like they were crushing good teams all year and just had a slip up along the way

HERE IS THE BIGGER POINT.
We're moving into an era of super conferences with the most difficult schedules ever.
Maybe it's time we do away with the ridiculous system of ranking teams based on number of losses, and move towards a system that rewards the best teams - period.
Starting in 2024, the days of undefeated seasons will be a thing of the past.

I would humbly ask Mr. Saban what quality win was on their resume last year?
I’ll wait.
