Are we making too light of the Oline performance at A-day?

There were only a few times the RBs got hit as soon as they took the handoff. And before anyone says, “well the Dline sucks!”, the RBs were getting hit in the backfield constantly by teams like San Jose State the past several years.

Also, I don’t remember someone coming through the middle untouched on the few passing plays they ran. Which also happened way too often the last couple years.

On the contrary you can never make too light of A-Day performances.

They looked much better. The few passing plays Holden had, I do remember one that there was basically a free rusher, but I think we were looking at like 2-3rd string guys. I think it was a pass play to King that it happened on.

Otherwise, they looked night and day better, but then again, with those conditions with was easy mode for them.

I remember that play. It was an outside rusher I believe though.

We all have PTSD and really need to see results during the season to feel any improvement

Facts, but I see a little sunshine peaking through the clouds.

No disagreement there... from an offensive perspective, they and the runningbacks both looked good.

On defense it's hard to say for sure but I was impressed by some of the corner/secondary play. LBs seemed way out of position and fooled by misdirection often. DLine pushed around a bit but OK.

Hard to judge everything though with the rain and limited playbooks.

It looked better on Saturday but we will be better able to judge the improvement when the season starts.

I was very impressed by how they pushed the DL around all day. I am just not sure if it is great improvement or an indictment of how bad the DL is.

The Dline is nowhere near as bad as some of the teams that have pushed our Oline around for several years, even if they are bad (which I don’t think they will be). Now our linebackers on the other hand, that might be a concern…

Conner Lew was impressive running with the ones. I saw several plays where he blew up his man and then got to the 2nd level. Think we truly found an underrated gem.

He was underrated by the recruiting services, but he was highly sought after by the coaches that know Olinemen. Stealing him from Crystalballs was huge.

The fact that Hugh made such quick work with Lew pretty much tells the tape of why our OL sucked with Harsin. Lew simply did not want to play for Harsin. Our OL isnt figured out just yet, but it is headed in the right direction. Once our OL is as talented as the Tuberville lines I will then say Auburn is back.

What about the Chiz olines? They paved the way for one of the greatest rushing attacks in NCAA history in 2013?

Chiz did well keeping the OL plenty stocked up even in the terrible 2012 recrruiting class

I don’t have a problem with that. I just remember the days of McNeil, Ben Grubbs, King Dunlap, etc

I liked the show our Oline put on A-day, but I'll have to see more improvement when the season starts

Was honestly impressed though

I’m not taking anything away from the A-Day performance of any group or anyone. I saw some very bad concerning things and I saw some great things. Can they be repeated over and over against another opponent and can the bad be improved over the coming months.

But to add to the conversation the OL looked more aggressive and we needed that. I think quality center play always makes the OL look better. The OL won the interior line play that day.
