I love Jekyll. Since the recent renovation of all the hotels, condos and facilities it’s incredible. The perfect mix of elegance and nature. The state does a great job of keeping the place pristine. And the best thing is that by law, only 33-34% of the island can be developed Because it has won numerous awards and received mentions in magazines and Conde Nast and Southern Living Jekyll has been “discovered” but thanks to the law protecting the island it will not be turning into another Panama City. I know I must sound like I work for the Jekyll Island publicity department but I’m totally blown away with this place. It’s unique. Never seen a place quite like it. Definitely worth the trip

I think the Georgia Club is private. It used to be unless something has changed. Haven’t played there in a few years so I’m not sure

I usually go down and stay for 5-7 days a couple of times a year. It’s so damn peaceful and has just enough food spots to keep things interesting. I’ve done the house rental, stayed at the old club multiple times, done the beach club, the Hampton, the Westin, etc and never had a bad trip.
It’s also a pretty easy drive over to St Simons across the sound for Southern Soul and more variety if ever wanted.
Come a long way since the 90s, too. I remember when the newest development was the gas station and Dairy Queen and what a revelation that felt like

Jekyll has totally transformed itself in the last few years. We enjoy the historic Millionaires Village. No other island or place has anything like that. Or Driftwood Beach. It’s almost unworldly. Lots of good places to eat too. We like staying at the Westin, the Jekyll Club Hotel and Villas by the Sea at Driftwood Beach. Villas’ condos are all privately owned and some are ok while others are beautiful. The complex recently underwent a total exterior renovation and we love staying there. We like having more room in a condo and being next to Driftwood Beach. The Westin is a favorite too. They even let us bring our dog. Even provided a bed and bowls for him. Not many elegant hotels allow that.
You are right about Soul Food BBQ on St Simons. Love it. The BBQ at the Love Shack in the Jekyll Market is almost as good if you’d rather not drive to St Simons.

It’s a really nice course. We actually thought about moving to the Georgia Club a few years ago but decided to stay put and get a small place in Athens for the fall and long weekends the rest of the year. I was tempted. The Georgia club is beautiful, the people are friendly ( they even allowed a Gator to live there and fly his Gator flag on his house) and I liked the golf course but I think we made the right decision.

WTF?? Forest Hills is in Augusta, home of AU.
Maybe it is Forest Heights or maybe there are two of them. Like I said a buddy is a member. Not me. Never played it. I hear good things though. I also hear Waynesboro used to be pretty good as well as the course in Metter. I have a friend whose brother runs that course. Never played it either. Just throwing out options in my area of Georgia.

Agree with Hard Labor Creek and Arrowhead (Arrowhead is probably the best public course in state for the price imo). Also may look at UGA University course in Athens...nice course. If you wanted to drive a little further west, Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain and The Fields in Lagrange would be good options that shouldn't be overly crowded.

Forest Heights is the country club in Statesboro. Kinda quirky.
I have known Gregg Wolff at Willow Lake in Metter for most of my adult life.

UGA course is great (long and challenging) but probably going to be swamped next weekend, especially if weather is nice.
Big fan of Chimney Oaks up north of 85 in Homer. Good price, fun course. Actually liked it better than Chateau Elan

We used to vacation at Jekyll every year from the late 70s through mid 80s when I was a kid. Typically rented a house a couple of blocks off the beach along Capt Wylly Road. I remember we'd go over to one of the golf courses right before sunset to see the gators that hung out there. Also remember they had a small outdoor theater that would put on different productions during the summer.
It's probably been 25 years since I was there at all. Need to plan a trip back to see how it has changed. I wish The Emmeline and Hessie restaurant was still over on St. Simons.

Ended up getting a tee time at Hard Labor Creek also. Looking forward to that one. The flyover of the course I found on YouTube looks legit
