Most telling bit is here.
Shows the depth of Gump corruption.
The decision to play Miller wasn’t Oats’ alone, though. According to athletics director Greg Byrne, the choice to play Miller was a group decision that included the president of the university, Stuart Bell. Later, Oats also said the University of Alabama System Board of Trustees was involved.

For Alabama basketball, was the price worth the cost?
Headline should’ve been: Was the juice worth the trigger squeeze

I can just picture those losers sitting around knowing this was their perfect chance to finally get to a Final Four and they’d do whatever it cost to keep him playing.

Honestly ? I don't know. Of course they were looking for any excuse to keep Miller on the floor. Of that I have no doubt.
I'd imagine they talked themselves into believing that, since Miller was not charged, they would expose the University to legal action by Miller if they suspended him. And maybe they would have.
There were no good choices in this - but damned if Oats and Alabama didn't somehow pick the worst one - by not only playing him but by the absolute arrogance they showed in the process. Oats was completely tone deaf during all of this. Miller wasn't much better.
Take the Bammers at the Rant out of the equation - and God knows there are some real pieces of work here. Just look at 'Bamas statements and actions - they may be sound from a legal perspective - but they flat out sucked as far as PR goes.
That's the problem with lawyers - all they focus on is law. Winning in the court of public opinion matters too. Lawyers typically miss that point.

Would love to read it, but AL.com is a cesspool.

Well thank God that they won’t remember that abysmal performance last night.

Really all it boils down to. Only good thing is they go home empty handed

All they had to do was sit him for 2 or 3 games in January while the university investigated. Could have saved themselves a huge amount of ill will. Maybe you lose 1 or 2 and get lesser seed…big deal.
