Florida quietly poached Alabama's Austin Armstrong

Very surprising.
It seemed like Armstrong was set to assist Kevin Steele as the de facto co-defensive coordinator and to take over himself in the not too distant future.

He was the linebacker coach and got a promotion to defensive coordinator. Pretty straight forward

No doubt but it was widely thought that he was Bama's DC in waiting.

He still may be, meantime he gets a raise. Not a bad deal.

Next year is Sabans last so that makes sense to get out now.

Provide a single link, one, where someone said Armstrong was our DC in waiting.
Good luck.

ETA: I should have gotten Florida State right, but I didn't.
Shame.

A poster on your board said it just yesterday.
That took all of 5 seconds.

Does that make my opinion widely assumed?

Nah.

He sounds like a good up and comer. Might of been the next Bama DC after Steele but he would of had some work to do to earn it.
Armstrong last served as the defensive coordinator at Southern Miss from 2021-22. In his first season, he was the youngest defensive coordinator in the country. The Golden Eagles ranked 42nd nationally in total defense (357.8 ypg), finishing 18 spots higher than the previous season. This past year, the total defense average dropped to 371.5 yards per game, but USM led the Sun Belt in sacks (44) and tackles for loss (109) and was second in interceptions (17

And here's a blog post:

Two weeks ago, Saban made the interesting move of plucking Austin Armstrong out of Southern Mississippi to work with inside linebackers for the Crimson Tide. Could it be that the Bama head coach sees another Pete Golding-like prospect that he can bring along and mold? If that is the case, might there be a veteran defensive mind who is creeping up on retirement who could man the defense for a few years and help mentor young Armstrong?

Yes. That is widely assumed here.
He is the new memphisplaya, a poster that actually lied about being an LSU trainer to the entire board.

Both very clearly suggest that it's a possibility.
