So last night after work several of us went to Rays Killer Creek steakhouse for dinner. Right off 400 on Mansell.
I parked my truck literally 15 feet from the front door.
Anyway, as we were walking out some guy busted out my back window and stole my backpack, he stole my coworkers a few moments before from his car.
I ran after him but he got into his car before I can grab him and i tried to open his door as he sped off but I couldn't. I was a foot away from getting him and yes I had bad intentions...
Anyway, cops told me its a regular occurrence in the restaurants around Avalon, Mansell, etc right off 400 hit about 10 cars and jet back down 400. They come up from Atlanta.
Whats crazy I was literally 15 feet from the front door I had the front parking spot. So it was beyond bold.
Yes I am aware had I got his door open he could have shot me (as HR, my wife and many other people have told me) but I was in reaction mode and wanted to put my hands on that guy.
Whats super crazy is I left my laptop in my office so the only thing in my backpack was blood pressure medicine and some pens.
Right next to my backpack was my luggage (Was staying in Alpharetta that night) which had an ipad in it AND there was a fully loaded Glock .40 cal sitting literally in the center console cup holder he either didnt see or want to take.
In short if you are having dinner off 400 in that area of Alpharetta, DO NOT LEAVE ANYTHING in your car. Cops said its several times a week it happens.
Yes I learned a valuable lesson I got lucky he didnt see my firearm. I normally carry but was a work thing the technically per my company rules I cannot carry in the office at at company events (Canadian based company) so I left it my car.
What really sucks is I have Dodge Ram 1500 and it will take two weeks to get two windows in from the factory (no after market they said). Apparently he tried to smash my front window didnt work so he smashed the back one but cracked the crap out of my front one.
So be careful out there. Carry heavy, keep your eyes peeled and take anything out of your car with any personal information or of value.
Note : The manager of Rays Killer Creek didnt even apologize or ask for our number or anything. He said "We have cameras" to the cops that was it. Will never eat there again.

Exact same thing happened to me otw to hawks game from Augusta 2 weeks ago. Busted my back passenger window didn’t take anything though there was a blue tooth speaker on the seat they didn’t touch. I assumed they were profiling my truck looking for a firearm. Exit 75 restaurant adjacent to stone crest mall. 5 o’clock broad daylight

Have you seen the original 1915 version of Birth of a Nation? It's free on youtube, but a very very long movie.

I realize it is not a Christian way to think but if someone could ventilate one of these perps it might help to stop it.

I remember my first year I lived in Atlanta in 1995. I went to softball practice over by Frankie Allen park near Perimeter mall. I changed in my car and left a backback in plain sight. I came back to a smashed window and I had my wallet in the car. I was at a tennis match at Terrell Mill park last Thursday. I came out of my match and this lady had her window smashed out and her purse stolen. If you leave anything in plain site in your car in Atlanta, you are asking for it. That includes shopping bags or anything else that looks like it may hold value. Some of the areas that get hit hard are gym parking lots and bike/walking trail parking lots.

I was one foot away from grabbing his door and dragging his arse out of the car. I am not claiming I am chuck Norris or some bad arse. But I am a person who was a bit larger than him in height and weight so I think I had a fighting chance to beat the living dog shite out of the guy. yes again he could have had a gun and I didnt have mine out so yes it could have ended bad for me But I was doing all I can to get that car door open.
Had I not followed my company policy and not leave my handgun in the car the cop told me before he got in his car I was within my legal rights to shoot. Not saying I would have I dont know what I would have done had I had my gun on me. I do know I started chasing him and I did all I could to get his car door open and pull him out as he was speeding away. got my hand jammed pretty bad on the door handle just could not get it open. I so wanted to get my hands on him.
An interesting note the cop told me. They target Trucks with Veteran tags, conservative or MAGA bumper stickers or Military Vet stickers. Because odds are people who have a truck with those kinds of stickers have guns in the car. Makes sense. I had neither as I am not a vet and aside from Prince Avenue Christian School sticker and my daugthers Travel team its just a plain ole Dodge Ram 1500 4x4

Yah, I had grand jury duty and we had several cases where people were caught going through cars(mostly trucks)looking for guns. The DA said there is a big black market operation and a lot of the car thieves go out specifically looking for guns. On another note, I don't know the law but you may want to check. I am aware of the "stand your ground" laws where you can shoot someone in self defense. I'm not sure you can shoot someone to prevent a crime. Again, I'm not up on the laws. I have a conceal and carry license but I don't carry too often because many times I would have to leave my gun in my car.
