Of course UCF’s claim is legitimate. The were listed as #1 by a recognized, contemporary source. It’s far more valid than the Gumps claims from the 1920-1941.
The college football playoff also showed the how the process could be corrupted and therefore illegitimate. Alabama was “selected” for the playoff over a team the lost to head-to-head and that finished ahead of them in the division and conference standings.
