Maybe I’m one of the people you labeled a troll, whatever that means. I’m not really sure. I’ve been lurking here, reading posts, for years and I post every so often, usually in game threads, but not that often. I rarely read and never post on the rant.
I’ve made it obvious I am in the camp that thinks Saban could have done much much better with both of these hires, especially with the DC. I honestly do not believe these hires are upgrades and are lateral moves at best. And I find all this talk of “I’m beginning to like these hires” or “we will have to just wait and see how they do” or “how can you be upset they haven’t called a play for Alabama” talk ridiculous. Obviously they both have a history of work you can look at with your own eyes that tells you what they are capable of. When you have to start making excuses like they did that with less talent, but with our players they can get us back to where we need to be, it just tells me my opinion is probably accurate.
I guess I thought this was a place where I could at least express my opinion and viewpoint, and at least be able to discuss my take on these hires, no matter if it was in opposition to the majority of people on here, and I thought that based on how I’ve observed the board over the years. Perhaps I wasn’t paying close enough attention.
Because now it appears that certain posters want to weed out anyone who has opinions that are in opposition to theirs. I’ve read multiple comments where people say it makes the board unbearable to have to read these comments, even though I’m not really sure how reading something you don’t agree with can be that unbearable. And now in this thread it’s become, just don’t respond to them and they will go away.
Is that what the team boards are supposed to be? A hive mind of sunshine pumpers that have positive reactions to a statement from a talking head, or an old QB on a radio show, or the new hires girlfriend posting a picture of a hat? Maybe expressing a different opinion than the majority makes me a troll, I don’t know, maybe I don’t get to decide that. Either way I’ll follow the lead of Pastor Mike and I’ll stop talking about how much of a mistake these hires are and how much I hope I’m proven wrong.

I appreciate your posts Alfie. They're thoughtful and honest.

It's certainly OK to express how pessimistic and miserable you feel about the OC & DC hires, but you've been flooding the board with it incessantly. So, it appears you're striving to make others feel miserable too. When you succeed at that, personal attack responses toward yourself will happen.

We'd have to wait and see on any hire. "Proven hires" don't always work out, for one reason or another.
I think some of the posters get annoyed with constant bitching and jumping to conclusions by other posters.
FTR, I don't know a single Bama fan who responded "Oh hell yes! We gone' dominate with Reese and Steele this year!"
If you think Saban could have / should have done much better with the hires, share specifics. WWASD?
Not calling you or any other poster out. I read most, if not all, of the posts. But frankly don't spend much time analyzing everyone's opinions.

How is Kevin Steele on the same level of Pete Golding?

Not even about that, trolls who are negative for no reason are annoying

Don't think this post was referring to you Alfie. More likely it was referring to certain posters who tend to tell people to go play in traffic or make childish sexual references when they don't have an actual response. I honestly don't know why they haven't been banned.

Your posts are always entertaining because I challenge myself to try and read them in Hardy's voice from Peaky Blinders, which is hard as shite to do.

This is going to sound like I’m being an arse but I’m not. What makes you think Saban didn’t hire the best available? There is this mistaken perception that Alabama can hire whoever whenever they want and that is simply not true. So who would you have hired that you know would accept the job at Alabama?
Look I may get disappointed in a hire but it’s never directed at a head coach who has had the success That Saban has had. I mean what else could he possibly do to create a better work environment than what he has done at Alabama? If this is who was available and would accept the job then what else could possibly be done. Fans create false narratives based on their love for a school and believe it to be reality. Truth is no one but those inside the program and the individuals themselves know what transpired.

I haven't noticed any trolling on your part. I'm referring more to the posts that have no intent but to troll. I'm not super active here so I wasn't sure if it was a new phenomenon.

quote:Firstly, I didn't call you a troll, nor do I consider you a regular, which I specifically referred to. Also, I've got no problem with differing opinions, IF they don't become obsessive, and ridiculously continuous. That led me to the comment concerning a lack of attention given to such posts which might dampen the enthusiasm of the poster.

If you have,in deed, been a reader for any length of time, I'm confident that you've noticed a small number of "regulars" who are either constantly negative, or reply in a juvenile manner. If I'm "out of line" with something I've posted, then I've got no problem with being called on it. If it can't be resolved, I'll simply turn and go another way.
PS- Thank God we don't ALL have to live with each other!
