Long-time off-and-on lurker as an Aggie/Irish fan. Haven't made an account until know, but I've been seeing some misinformation on here that I just can't abide. Some of y'all are saying things like Tommy Rees will bring a physical game to Alabama.
False. Tommy Rees was a spread QB, and learned to OC under Kelly, who loved to pass, pass, pass. Besides USC, every game Notre Dame lost this season was because, despite ND's excellent OL/RBs and putrid QB/WR, Tommy Rees couldn't help but pass pass pass. When having drives that were gaining 4+yds per run, he'd suddenly call passes on 1st and 2nd down, which would go incomplete.
I'm rooting for him at Alabama. I think Saban will develop him well, and look forward to a Saban-developed coach at ND whenever Freeman takes over Ohio State. But it is not his natural instinct to have a physical game.

Well, at least the players will do their fricking job

Ian Book was not a passing QB, or in a pass happy offense. Wtf

Rees will fit in well because A1abana isn’t a very physical football team. I’ve had steaks tougher than that defense

Kelly's offense isn't the Air Raid, but it is certainly a pass-first offense.
In 2019 Book was 6th in the country in Passing TDs. In 2020 he was 10th in Attempts and 12th in yards.

I know, it hurts to hope Bama does good at anything, but I like the guy. Ideally, Rees would do well, and the Bama D would implode. Which won't happen, but I can dream.

No worries friend, it happens to all of us from time to time.

Book was absolutely a passing QB at Notre Dame. Look at his stats.

I haven't watched Notre Dame much, but he did try to throw that SCU game away a time or two by letting that terrible QB throw the football when he didn't need to. But he'll probably have a better QB at Bama.

one wrong play and saban will chew his azz out. he will learn run pass decisions very quickly

As an ND fan who was in the stands every single game Tommy Rees was OC at home…
This is the wrong take lol. We often ran the ball when the situation obviously called for passing. Sometimes successfully, sometimes not!

I was going to say that Saban will jerk a knot in his arse like he did to Kiffin if he gets cute. I’d imagine that was discussed up front as to what was expected.
It’s no secret Saban can be difficult to work for.

For a guy who does *not* love a physical game, they sure have been successful running the damn ball
Yep. We have had an awesome OL and RBs. Which is why throwing away the game is so incredibly annoying.
Against Marshall - 38 passes, 37 rushes.
Against Clemson - 17 passes, 47 rushes.
Pretty sure he had his job threatened after the Marshall game.
