what will be the next school to win a natty for the first time in their history.

There's a physics axiom that the chances for something happening for the first time will always be lower than for something that has happened before, but first time occurrances do happen. The NCAA link below lists all the natty's (and the services that picked them) going back to 1896 and there are a lot of teams on the list that I had no idea had won one. So who will be the next one to break through for the first time?

Definitely the clear favorite.

Depends on how the conferences shake out. Oregon is certainly a good pick.
But I think there are several Big 12 schools that could be the breakthrough team. Ok State, Baylor, and TCU have all been good.

I'll say Oregon, too. They've been close before, unlike TCU who wasn't close at all. There was a lot of talk regarding whether or not TCU should have even been in the playoffs, but the question was not answered until Georgia kicked the living shite out of them. That wasn't even a game; just a scrimmage.
EDIT: shite, I just saw that TCU did win a natty before.

People forget Oregon went to the NC twice in the 2010s.
They’re a star QB away from really stealing the pac 12. Lincoln Riley is too dependent on QBs and zero defense to win anything substantial in his career. Deion might steal one eventually but I believe Oregon or Utah is ultimately the predominate force for the time being in the PAC.

A real real dark horse for me is North Carolina if Mack Brown figures it out of defense one year. He’s fielding some potent offenses lately, and is developing his QB’s and skill players into NFL draft picks.

Once USC & UCLA inexplicably leave for the B1G, who else outside of Eugene would have a shot winning the PAC?

Utah, Washington, Oregon State, no to the Arizona schools, I don’t think prime can get Colorado there without a Heisman level QB, who else is there?

Here are some way-too-early Top 30 teams projected for 2023 that could meet this criteria, just for reference:
Washington (claim a split title in 1991)
Oregon
TCU (claim a couple in the 1930s)
Utah (some claim 2008 lulz)
Oregon State
Tulane (they've won three SEC Championships)
North Carolina
Kansas State
Arkansas (claim splits in 1964 and 1977)
Wisconsin
South Carolina
Boise State
UCLA (claim a split in 1954)
Texas Tech

I don't. They should have been in over Nebraska in 01 as well, though they wouldn't have beaten Miami. And they controlled their destiny in 07 before Dixon went down. Don't wanna say they'd have made it because they had already lost to Cal and wild shite happened every week that year so you never know, but they were never the same team after that.
In '21 they make the playoffs if they win the Pac, plus they've had other years where they just missed out similar to that. They've been close a lot, just can never do just that little extra to cash in. But they have all the tools a school needs. A+ facilities, national brand with Nike backing NIL, new unis every week, sitting right on top of Cali and Stanford/Cal aren't exactly football powerhouses for the NoCal recruits. I think there'll be a year where they finally crack through.
I used to think West Virginia, seeing as they're the winningest P5 team without a title (or they used to be, haven't checked that in a while) but they haven't seriously contended for anything since Rich Rod, and the Big 12 hasn't been kind to them.
I just saw Wisconsin in the post above mine. I'm kinda surprised they never have. The Big Ten West is bad so maybe Fickell can cash in once the playoffs expand.

I would say Utah as well
They have a better defense and they have been so consistent
I have a feeling Lanning and Elko with enough success may make their way back to the SEC at some point

The way college football has become such a regional sport, you almost want to look first at the southeast.

Completely different staff and that was what? A decade ago?
Only to get blown out by UGA as well this past season

If they're going to win one t better be this year. As long as there are 3-4 SEC teams in a 12 team playoff, no one. Those SEC teams that will be there all have at least one.
