Kiffin, Sark and Pendry were known as elite in their specialty areas when they came to Bama. Rees is closer to Pete Golding as far as professional accomplishments coming to Bama than he is to Sark, Kiffin, Stallings and Pendry

OC at Notre Dame is a little more accomplished than DC at UTSA. Kiffin was a walking punch line when we hired him and Sark's performance with the Falcons was considered mediocre at best.

They was all fired from coaching because they could not produce. Kiffin and Sark had the best talent in cfb at usc, but they was young and given a chance, they was considered toxic when they came to Bama

Pendry was fired from the Texans because of the shitty OL play and was considered washed up

Stalling did most of his career at Dallas as a DB coach under one of the best in Tom Landry and also under Bryant. Fired from a&m and the cardinals.

Point being they all was successful in the right environment and Rees should be given the same chance as them to prove himself.

I agree with what you are saying but the incorrect usage of was/were is killing me. I'm not one to be the grammar police but three times in one post sent me there.

He wouldn't be my choice but at his age, I'm willing to support him and give him a chance.

To be honest, not sure it matters that much since the OC will run whatever Saban wants anyway. For the most part, Saban has shown he can adjust on offense and put up points. More concerned about adjustments needed on defense when handling a competent dual threat QB and wide sets. Don't think what we run is as effective against that style offense.

Saban has hired very few proven OCs. Add Rees to the list. I hope he works out. All I can do is watch what he does and hope. If he is successful, we'll lose him to ND as a HC in a few years.

Your comment makes sense if you watch football on a superficial level. The coaches especially Saban doesn't care about the prestige of your former employer. Saban has hired guys from group of 5 schools and he's hired guys from power 5 schools. In the coaching industry the great coaches don't look down on guys because of where they work.

Sark and Kiffin were excellent OCs at USC; won nattys and put QBs in the NFL. Kiffin's personality issues and Sark's alcoholism doesn't take away that they were elite college football OCs BEFORE coming to Bama. To think Saban gave a shite about Kiffin being the butt of fan jokes says a lot about you and your understanding of the game.

I'm hopeful Rees is successful but I'm not about to do him a disservice by comparing him to Sark and Kiffin. Rees simply can't compare to those guys.

I see what saban is doing here. He knows his defense is getting more soft every year since he went spread offense. Practicing against that kinda offense everyday makes your team soft as a whole. With all of the big 350 plus o linemen we got in this year's class, he looks like he wants to get back to smash mouth play. Now when he went to the spread not everyone was running it. Today 90% of teams run it. So let's go back to the smash mouth style and like Georgia is doing now then you just wear people down and beat teams into submission. Most teams defense's like ours is soft. In the last few years we score a lot of points and get alot of yards but when it got crunch time where we need a yard or two for a first down or TD we can't get it. There's nothing more demoralizing than knowing a team is going run it and your too wore down to stop it. Also ball control makes your defense alot better.

I agree. And, this is why the incoming DC has to be elite.

Maybe. Or maybe we are just trying to convince ourselves (not me) that this is a good hire.

I didn't say Saban cared about what people thought of Sark and Kiffin. I was simply comparing the general consensus of the fanbase when they were hired to the reaction to Rees.

And yes there's a difference between OC at Notre Dame and DC at UTSA but I wasn't talking about prestige. I was talking about level of competition. Rees having coached at a school playing a power 5 schedule and having competed in the playoff is a little more accomplished than Pete having coached at the group of 5 level when he was hired.

But thanks for reminding everyone what a condescending a-hole you are.

He's afflicted with rantarditis. Symptoms include mental constipation and mouth diarrhea. Unfortunately there's no cure.

I'm not saying it's a home run hire. But Saban is trying to get back to a more physical style of offense. That's the key that I like to focus on.

I hope we can get some of these electric playmakers we have the ball. I personally would of preferred Grubb or AJ but if Rees can turn us into a physical team again and get our playmakers the ball then I'm good.

Sounds like a good hire and I'm a wait to critique him after he's had a chance to operate with our talent.

I feel a whole lot better about this hire than I ever did about Bob. So we will see where we stand after this season. On the DC SIDE, thank the good lord it wasn’t Grantham. I’m not sure i would be able to watch any games if he got the job. That would have been a disaster for sure.
