Austin Armstrong (Southern Miss DC) is name getting thrown around. And one that would probably greatly disappoint many around here lol.

I read the footballscoop article. It pretty clearly said "a position on staff".

He's a ILB coach with DC experience in FBS. I think it's possible that we are considering hiring him to coach ILB and be a co-DC and hire Leohnard as DC (play calling DC) and coach safeties. That way, the DC is involved with ILB through the co-OC, and Armstrong can learn for 2-3 years under Leonhard before Leonhard moves on to be a head coach somewhere.

That is just complete dot connecting by me, but it seems to make a lot of sense.

I'm open minded. I don't think we need an all world DC to field a better defense than what Golding did. We need a good teacher, who plays to the strengths of his personnel and who communicates defensive concepts easily.
