which would put Saban's unprecedented Bama run of titles at 5 instead of 6....could you imagine the narrative if Kirby had 3 titles at age 47?? These are good times for us Dawgs!

....and dear Lord did we earn it

Maybe. In theory. But also if we win that one it would have put us on an alternate trajectory that could have changed the last two years’ outcomes. But yeah that one will sting till they cover me with dirt, although the pain now has two years heaping helping of balm on it.

Ah, who knows? It was second down, they had 2 more downs, with a chance to kick a FG and tie the game in that OT period.

Agreed. "One play away " gets overused by fans.

Mark richt was one play away from facing a shite Notre Dame team in a BCS national championship game in 2012…. That he would’ve easily won…. Which means he would’ve been kept around longer than 2015 and Kirby would’ve taken the auburn job or the South Carolina job or god forbid fricking Florida or Tennessee…

I thought the sack on the previous play had pushed them out of range?

They get 4 downs.
Not 2.

They had 2 guys open downfield on the 2nd down play. If he takes the underneath route, 2nd and 26 was moot.

or a tyler simmons was onsides

he's also a made fg away from not winning it this year (we had a couple kicks that could have changed things as well).

these plays and moments all happen and you're gonna be on the right side of some and the wrong side of some. it seems fairly even thus far

And who’s to say they wouldn’t have called a safe play on third down to get just enough yards to get back in FG range? That’s the reason I said they had 2 more downs. One to get back in range and one to kick. Now….they miss a play on third down and then the situation becomes dicey. But on first down, didn’t Sanders miss an INT that would have won the game?

No, first down was the sack that made it 2nd and 26.

(Channeling my inner Kirby) I get the point, but just remember we were also 1 tackle away from losing to Missouri. If this team needs to be told daily they're dog crap to get a threepeat, sign me up. I'll say it every day.

Yep. Not making that tackle could have really altered the rest of our season. An 18 year old psyche is a fragile thing.

UGA was definitely a busted coverage away. Bama had the ball on the 41 or 42 yard line. Bama's kicker was TOAST. He had just missed a 20 yarder to win the game in regulation and was barley making extra points. Bama would almost certainly have gone for it instead of trying a 40 yard field goal (to even get to a 40 yard field goal Bama would've needed a 1st down).

I think "one busted coverage away" is pretty darn accurate.

That is now the hardest play to process emotionally in Georgia history.

On one hand, scoring there would have delivered a national title and ended the drought…

On the other hand, what you said about Kirby is true. And Richt was certainly not winning another natty the way he was recruiting and coaching in the latter part of his career.

So, a natty that would’ve cemented the legacy of both Richt and Murray (who would’ve handily gone down as the GOAT QB in UGA history if that season ends that way) ripped away in gut-wrenching fashion vs. paving the way for a possible future dynasty…

Hell of a world we live in.

Mizzou was better. They made us look like chumps and we appear to be frauds. Starks got lucky he was that fast. That kinda luck won’t help this group in 23…
