How does this affect Young? No way they take a QB with Fields there.

Either trade it or grab Will Anderson. Maybe both. Maybe trade Fields.

I doubt they trade Fields, he played way better than expected. Talking heads at the beginning of the season said Chicago was supposed to historically bad.

Watch the video I posted in football thread. Good explanation of why they might choose Bryce.
It's an article on ESPNs homepage. The video with the article is the important part.

Who needs a QB that would trade up besides the Texans?

I would trade fields and draft Young

That's what they were saying in the video I posted. It laid out all the reasons why it might be a good idea. If I were the Bears, I'd do it.

heard the talking head says it starts the rookie contract over with someone who may be as good or better then Fields plus you get potential draft choices. Makes some sense but physical stature alone tells me as a GM that I stick with Fields and pay him what he is worth when his Rookie Contract is up

Fields is 3rd from the bottom in the league in Completion %, almost at the bottom for regular starters in passing yards and top quarter in the league in interceptions. Unless they feel he will get to where he needs to be just with OL and WR help, they should move him and take Bryce. Sounds like he has an issue with accuracy and reading a defense. Not to mention with the constant running he does, he's bound to stay hurt and shorten his career.

Seems like from inside the NFL circles, that Chicago is good with Fields. They know he’s a project and they are in a rebuild.
This might a good opportunity for them to fleece someone for multiple 1st and 2nd rounds picks to move up. I’d think that a first round swap, this years second round and next years first round pick, as well as a few extra late rounders might do it.
Teams like the Colts have already come out and said that they are willing to do whatever it takes to get the QB that they have at the top of their board. Whether that’s Bryce or not is hard to say.
Will be an interesting run up to the draft.

Raiders, Colts, Seahawks, Texans, Falcons, Panthers, Commanders and maybe even the Cardinals.
The Cardinals just fired their coach and then the GM over the contract they gave Kyler Murray. I’d say that the organization is not all in on him.
The Ravens may move on from Jackson as well and go for someone to save money. Jackson can be great with his feet, but he wants to be the highest paid player in the NFL, problem is, he’s not worth it and has spent a lot of time injured. You can’t cripple a team financially over a not quite elite QB. That said, they’re probably too far down the list to be in play unless they give up a ton.

The Cardinals did this only a few years ago. Drafted Josh Rosen in the first round and only a season or two later drafted Kyler Murray #1 overall.

QB is the most important position and with slotted compensation and defined rookie contracts, there isn't much financial punishment doing this. Moving forward, we might see more and more of this.

To be an NFL QB, certainly a QB you build a championship around, you have to be able to throw accurately from the pocket. You can have all the physical tools in the world, but if you can't do that, you can't be a championship QB. I don't think Fields has shown he can operate from the pocket effectively yet.
*They won't, but I'd like to see the Bears make the moves necessary to grab Bryce. They aren't the pile of dysfunction the Texans are.

The thing from the video that made me think they might get Bryce is that the current Bears front office is not the one that drafted Fields.

The media suddenly started heaping praise on Fields just because he had a few big runs. He's not a franchise QB and won't develop into one. They won 3 games.
But I see them as trading down with a team looking for a QB. Houston is at 2 and will definitely go QB. Will they be enamored enough with 1 prospect to trade up one spot to insure they get him? I think Indianapolis or Carolina would be good spots for Bryce where he could win quickly...both owners are the types to go all in if they wanted to move up to 1. But if Chicago wants to add some additional draft capital and still get Will Anderson, then they just swap picks with Houston. They'd get more return for trading the pick to a team further down the pecking order, but then they'd miss out on Anderson. It'll be interesting. Not sure what Houston would have to give up to move from 2 to 1.

Guess it all comes down to whether the Bears think Fields will be the one to get them to where they want to be. I don't think he's the answer.

top 5 picks are mostly useful to get a QB, Left Tackle, Shutdown Corner, or a receiver with special abilities like Waddle or Julio. Absent that for a bad team their best bet is to trade the 1st and try to bring in multiple top 30 picks over the next two drafts.
The Texans figure to take young in the 2nd pick so I'd find someone below them that are desperate for a game changer at QB.

I think Colts sell the farm to jump from #4 to #1 for Bryce.
Bears get more picks, and still are in striking range for one of the elite players.
