The horned lizard is popularly called a "horned toad", "horny toad", or "horned frog", but it is neither a toad nor a frog. The popular names come from the lizard's rounded body and blunt snout, which give it a decidedly batrachian appearance.[4] Phrynosoma literally means "toad-bodied" and cornutum means "horned".[5][6] The lizard's horns are extensions of its cranium and contain true bone. Kind of makes the whole hypnotoad thing not make sense. Lizards don’t produce DMT, only actual toads, more specifically Sonoran Desert Toads.

Horned lizards, the official Texas state reptile and mascot of Texas Christian University, are as fascinating as they are adorable, with unique defense mechanisms. If alarmed, these little “dragons” can puff up their bodies, pretending to be huge.

If that doesn’t scare off the attacker, a horned lizard can shoot a stream of blood out of its eyelid, blood that tastes very bad to canid predators

Damn !

I grew up near the Mojave Desert. Used to catch horned frogs all the time. Can confirm they will squirt blood from the eyes as a defense mechanism. They are also good at burrowing into sand to stay hidden, but if you know what to look for they are not hard to catch. Apparently, their numbers have dwindled in the last few decades which is sad.

Regardless, Dawgs by 14.
