He’s got a connection with his players and they (usually) play hard for him. Not sure why they sometimes appear not to play hard, maybe the changes this offseason will fix it.

I'm tired of playing not to lose when we go up. What a loser mentality. Keep playing the same style of ball that got you lead in the first place.
Pittman has been a good stabilizer with the shite show he inherited. Worse case scenario, when he does retire (hopefully not get fired), hopefully we will be attractive enough to not hire another Chad.

Under 3 minutes
We have the ball on Kansas’ 30
Kansas is out of timeouts
What you call “playing not to lose” put us in that position. Sorry you’re too dumb to understand basic football.

Well, frick. You've got it figured out.
We started sitting on our thumb well before the 3 minute mark in the 4th. Keep on thinking you're right and I'm wrong. You'll never change my mind and I won't change yours either.

Oh JFC. Shut the frick up already. You're so narrow minded and act like this is a one time thing in how this staff gives up big leads or goes on scoring droughts. Pull your head out of your arse.

The thing is most coaches do this. Our fans get frustrated with Muss for his stall ball tactics toward the end of games but it typically ends up winning you the game more often than not.
Now maybe Pittman could get away with it more at a place like Georgia since they have better players and a run for no gain would turn into a 40 yard TD run instead, but burning as much clock as possible with how fast college offenses can score these days isn’t that unheard of.

I personally don’t have a problem with a coach trying to milk some clock to get the game over with when he has the lead. I do have a problem when you do it too early like in the 3rd quarter just because you don’t want to hurt the other teams feelings.

Me either, but when they are loading the box and trying to win, you pass on them. So you can keep the downs going.

Doesn’t require any thinking really. The situation sorta speaks for itself. Up by 14, under 3 minutes, we have the ball on Kansas’ 30, Kansas is out of timeouts. Every single coach in America would take that situation. Maybe “thinking” is where you start running into issues. You should try thinking less; it seems you’re not very good at it.

We better beat western Carolina by 70

Not when they scored 2 touchdowns in the last 15m of playing and you haven’t scored any… and they are still trying to win and you are just trying to survive. Maybe if you had broken their will… we didn’t keep stepping on them until their will was broken.

We won't. We'll probably come out unprepared and uninspired as always against a G5 team.

We had a 40 yard pass play to Landers on that same drive did we not? I really wish that “fumble” hadn’t happened because we probably would have scored again and won by 22 and none of this conversation would be happening lol

What about the 5 drives before that? We ran it 3 times into a wall. Not one pass to keep us rolling. Is that Sam saying don’t pass because it looks bad? Or is it just the clock killing they’ve devoloped? Idk. But I know it’s happened multiple times. Maybe they saw a stacked box and thought wow if we throw we can score at will, so let’s not beat them like that? But after they scored on us multiple times and were trying to claw their way into it? You score on them and say no, we are your daddy today.

Great moment between 2 people that reinvigorated our fan base

Milking the clock against an inferior opponent is terrible strategy. More possessions equals less variance and fewer possessions equals more variance. If you’re the superior team you want as little variance in outcome as possible.
Most coaches are of average intelligence and should be outsourcing their logic. You’re already seeing it with analytics. Evolve or die.

quote:the drive that the fumble occurred was us no longer playing conservative because it was never about running the clock out. What Pittman started doing was running the ball up the gut to be nice. Once he realized Kansas wasn’t lying down he told briles to kick it back into gear (smart move imo.) my gripe is that we should’ve never took our foot off their throat to begin with in the 3rd quarter. We wasted 3 or 4 possessions just running the ball and maybe throwing on 3rd down but really not trying to do everything in our power to win. That’s my issue

Wait so you don’t think we were just trying to coast to victory after that 1st td of the 2nd half? Because that is 100% what it looked like to me. And briles is an offensive minded guy like kiffin or huepel, leach, kingsbury etc. and those guys normally prefer running it up even sometimes to their detriment where they get to aggressive and let teams back into games they shouldn’t. But that means it’s most likely Sam telling briles to throttle down anytime you see the offense start randomly stalling out in the 2nd half of games that we’ve been dominating

I’m laughing bc you have it all figured out, do you stand between them on the sidelines for this intel? Every game you either blame Briles, Pitt or both depending on how it plays out. Just makes me laugh how deeply people think about the game even after a W.
