Braves should have re-signed him.

.255 career hitter makes $177mm over 7 years? He must have a dozen gold gloves and a few MVPs surely.

Nobody worries about batting average in 2022 (all hits are not created equally). His lousy OBP and slugging average, however, mean he’d have to be Ozzie Smith defensively to make this a good deal, and he ain’t. Braves were right to say “see ya.”

Honestly, I was worried they were gonna sign him. Unless he took a significant hometown discount, was best to let him go elsewhere.

Happy for him. He earned it.

At least it wasn't a contender he went to.

Nothing can fix the pain of us giving Wilson Contreras away to the fricking Cardinals.

His best season was this past season with 6 WAR. His other seasons he was a 2 to 3 WAR type of player. Most of his WAR comes from defense. Defense on MLB players will decline generally after 30. Cubs are overpaying 25 mill for likely a 2 to 3 WAR player.

100% correct, Braves need a frontline starter not an overpaid shortstop

AA would never pay that, nor should he. Glad for Dan though.

Good for him. I'll miss him but if that's what it took to keep him then it was the right decision to let him walk.
