I just created an account on this site, but I've been reading it for the last week or so. I've seen Stetson Bennett mocked on this forum for his age, amongst other things. Hendon Hooker will turn 25 in about a month, yet I've seen absolutely nothing regarding his age. Honestly, I had no idea he was about to be 25. There probably isn't a college football fan alive who doesn't know Stetson Bennett's age. What's the difference, exactly? I'd like for some long-time posters to enlighten me. I know his surname was probably an easy target for ridicule, but perhaps Hooker's age was mocked and I just missed or wasn't here for it?

If Stetson Bennett was a lineman or a linebacker or even a really physical wide receiver, there could be an asterisk beside his name, because people have more natural strength when they're 25 than when they do as teenagers, but if you're a 5-10 quarterback what difference does it make???

When Tennessee was undefeated everyone correctly pointed out that having a 24/25 year old quarterback is an unfair advantage and should be against the rules.

Nobody really had a problem with Stetson’s age until last week when he dragged his balls all over LSU’s defense and people realized he’s actually good.

If you are over 18 and wrote that post in the childish way that you did, you should re-evaluate your life.

Everyone? Correctly?

No, not everyone. No, not correctly. Mouth breathing sister frickers might have said that.

Experience and maturity/decision making ability under pressure are two huge factors between 19-20 and 25.

Think back to the difference in your own attitude/maturity in that time frame.

Also, even at 5'10" the physical strength difference in those 5-6 years can be big.

Edit: To address the OP, it may be because Hooker really wasn't on the radar until this season, while Bennett has been in the spotlight for a couple of years already.

The biggest difference to me is Hooker was a 4 star hit to go to all the camps and Elites and got catered to at VT and transferred to UT when it didn’t work out.

Stet had to beg to get into camps traveled all over the country trying to get an Elite invite. Didn’t matter he was putting up the best numbers in the state of GA for 2 years, walked on at UGA. Could have gone G5, but wanted to try to play in Athens. Did the work on scout team didn’t complain. Went to JUCO when UGA got Fields cause he wanted to play even though Smart offered a scholly to stay. Got beat up in JUCO played hurt and still led them to the champ game. UGA called him to come back and back up Fromm when Fields left, he came back to provide depth for a coach and team who still didn’t give him a shot. After Fromm left ( thank God) UGA went and got 2 “Elite “ QBs and Stet went behind not 1 but 2 freshman, 5th on the chart. No spring game time no practice time , did all in his own time.
Daniels stays hurt , Newman leaves, Mathis sucks in the start against Arky in 2020 and Beck wasn’t ready. So unwilling Smart turned to the only Real Dawg at QB on the team.

And the rest is F-ing History.

You may hate him, you maybe jealous of him.

The FACT is he has earned very damn step and not complained! He belongs in NY tonight over anyone else, whether he wins or loses the award.. He belongs there!

I think this is the correct observation.

In horse racing we love the long shot but rarely bet on them, and play a favorite instead. In this age gambling has more hold than it used to and Hooker has probably made you money and Stetson has probably lost you money.

Human nature being what it is, hate and jealousy probably get a response in our brain faster than love or giving. There is a reason media leads with conflict stories and play the feel good stories near the end.

Probably because he no longer plays college football and isn’t in NYC for the Heisman awards.

Hookers older age was certainly ok when he pulled down other recognitions last week.
